How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Somerset Hills Veterinary Services

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

I have two cats. I just adopted one of them three months ago. My one cat that I had just adopted was having some issues that I needed to get to a vet ASAP. My own vet that I have been going to for probably 15 years said that they couldn’t take for four or five days, they told me to go to the emergency place. Emilia, who is also is a beautiful person spoke to Dr. Johnson and they got me in immediately within an hour of my phone call. Ironically, a couple of weeks after I went to Dr. Johnson, my other cat was sick and again they took me in immediately. God bless Dr, Johnson, and their beautiful office staff!!!

Reached out to schedule a recheck for my dog as a new patient and would have considered switching as my primary vet. Instead received an unhelpful message that she’s not accepting new patients. It would be courteous to clarify that on the website — though I suppose it’s understandable that a one-person operation can’t maintain a standard patient load like a regular practice.

I have been a client of Dr Johnson for 30 years. She has cared for my cat and dogs. She has always been very thorough, I have never felt rushed. She gives her honest opinion but never pushes you to make a choice you are unsure of. She had been extremely patient and attentive when my dog was in "hospice" She stuck by us during Covid, and was always available when I needed her. Her staff has always been a pleasure to work with. Very professional and attentive. I couldn't imagine anyone else caring for my pets.

Dr. Johnson and her staff are all very kind and thorough. Over the years, taken my cat and dog here for both annual visits and emergencies and fortunately have always had a great result. My pets are very healthy and Dr. Johnson has been a valuable guide in helping maintain the health of my pets.
