How to Save Money at Animal Health Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Donovan is the most caring and concerned Veterinarian I have ever had. He and his staff were positive roles for our family with our pets care in the final weeks. RIP Mocha

They take very good care of our dogs. They understand and are considerate when a loss takes place. This is Cyrus. They helped us hold on as long as we could after his cancer diagnosis. Gone but never forgotten.❤️💔❤️

If you are considering bringing your animals hear for treatment, please reconsider. AHC is not the same as it was before purchased by Rare Breed which is a corporation owning Veterinary companies. The quality of service has dropped dramatically, cost has increased substantially, and the veterinarians there lack the experience, common sense, and compassion that office was originally built on. Rare Breed has been riding on the reputation of the original owners/providers, but showing their true purpose...make as much money as possible while providing as little experience and services they can. The providers there couldn't even figure out an ear infection and blamed allergies. Didn't test the infection. Once my dogs ear actually started bleeding due to the infection, I brought him to the ER. Took an emergency room visit for my dog to get the treatment needed. Since that ER visit, no ear infection. My dog had some bumps removed and during that procedure, another bump was found that generated an appointment with oncology. The original bump that was removed was sent out for testing. Weeks passed with no update. I went to the oncologist with my dog regarding the secondary bump. While there, I learned they had to call the AHC to get the results from the primary bump AHC removed. I was then blindsided with a cancer diagnosis that AHC sat on and never called me. I've tried to schedule an appointment and left a message for them. Never got a call back. The only thing that's been consistent since AHC was purchased by Rare Breed is the nurses and front end staff are the same. Amazing individuals with compassion. They are stuck working under this horrible corporate management. I sent a complaint into Rare Breed and have heard nothing back. Probably because there isn't money to be made from it. For the record, several patients have left AHC since the change of ownership and I suspect more will be leaving unless there is a serious direction change on how AHC/Rare Breed operate. My family has brought our furry family members to AHC for 20 pluse years. I've recently removed my 3 dogs and cat as patients of AHC and found a Veterinary Office that is still individually owned and managed. AHC and Rare Breed should be ashamed of themselves for what they've done to the good name/business that was the original Animal Health Center (AHC).

Our dogs love it here. Everyone is so nice to our critters. You can tell they really care. All treatments are explained in depth, and all options are explored. Empathy and compassion for your pets well being and also for you as the owner, this is a place with heart and soul.
