How to Save Money at West Fargo Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been taking my lab/spaniel mix to West Fargo Animal Hospital since her first puppy visits. She’s now 6 and every time I’ve been to the vet with her she has been taken care of so well. They are so loving and sweet to her and she is a timid dog sometimes but always excited to be at the vet. They are honest and sincere with their care, but never too pushy unlike some vets who seem to only care about money. They give tips and tricks and answer any questions I have. They take their time and are efficient and helpful. I’m moving away but will always recommend WFAH to my Fargo friends and family. Thank you for your care for E!! She is a healthy, happy pup and thank you for keeping her so!

WFAH is great, friendly, communicative and helpful. We just took Loki, Avi and Sol in for their vaccinations all at the same time and they were great about handling all three cats at once. I love this place and would definitely recommend them.

Thank you for the great experience. We we’re very pleased how comfortable you kept Dash. He doesn’t like going to the vet. Appreciate all you do!

I called to make an appointment and inquire about a test for my dog. I was told to bring the stool sample in at any time and it was not needed the time of appointment. I bring the sample in a day before my appointment, only to find out the test is indeed bloodwork. Heather the practice manager, was the one who assisted me and she was absolutely horrible. She had the worst the attitude and lacks customer service, communication, and hospitality. Her attitude and persona were discriminative, she did not treat anyone else in there like that except me. I am highly disappointed and left in tears. I did not raise my voice, I did not use profanity, I didn’t cause a scene, I didn’t even have an attitude. I simply came in to have a service completed, the way I was told to do it when I called. She did not suggest any solutions to move forward. She cut me off several times, and had no problem canceling my appointment. She refused to give me supervisor information. She told me I needed to wait for her to assist another customer before I could get my pet records. If they treat the owners like this I can only imagine how my dogs are treated. I will NEVER return. Update: Thank you for you condescending and manipulative reply, I expected nothing less. It’s easy to write some fabricated response, when if that were the case there would be no problem and I wouldn’t have needed to find a new vet. I wish I was given some option to solve the problem and get my dog proper treatment.

Every staff member was kind to us. The front desk receptionists have good knowledge of keeping pets calm while waiting for the appointment. Each tech that handled our pets were invested in each cat as an individual. They were attentive and compassionate to everything we had to say. Our veterinarian is highly knowledgeable and completely aware of the situation. We take cats off the street and our team was prepared for the visit. Dr Alex got us gabapentin to help our most feral cat be handled and cared for. Every question I had was answers or researched and answered later. I am fully confident West Fargo Animal Hospital will be our pets clinic for the rest of their lives. Thank you for treating us like family.
