I had the scare of my life yesterday when my dog had 3 seizures in 10 minutes. I called TVRH and they told me to head over- and got all my info on the phone. When I pulled in they were already anticipating our arrival and were standing at the front door. I wish I remembered the staffs names that helped me but honestly I mentally blacked out. My sweet baby needed to stay the night in the ICU and as promised the Dr. called me with an update before she left for the night. I called an additional 2 times (despite knowing that no news is good news) and the receptionists were very patient and kind in going and seeing how she was doing. I got a phone call early this morning from the Dr saying Lucia had done great and I could get her early afternoon. I was told she was such a great patient. The technician who did her discharge was super thorough and kind. I had a great experience here during a time where I thought everything was not going to be okay. Lucia is home now and resting and we want to thank all the staff here who helped care for her yesterday and today.

My husband and I are over the road tractor trailer drivers and had our 2 MaineCoon cats, Monkey & Camo, with us 24/7. That being said, when Monkey, 14yrs old became lethargic and not eating we decided to take him to the vets at 10:30 at night. They kept him overnight and an Ultrasound the next morning. They were kind enough to let us sleep on the street in our truck next to building(our truck is like a small RV). The next morning we got a call from Dr. Lanza which resulted in the Worst news possible! Monkey had severe internal problems, most likely from cancer. Everyone was so professional and caring through this most dreadful time in our lives. We were able to stay with Monkey for as long as we wanted, and stayed until he drew his last breath. Thank you Dr. Lanza for making this painful experience more comforting.❤️💔

The phenomenal care that our Leo received is greatly appreciated. From the surgical consult to the actual surgery and two week post procedure visit, every single doctor, nurse, vet tech and support team member with whom we interacted was compassionate, thorough, patient, knowledgeable and professional. Dr. Hirshenson and his team are first class! Our local veterinary provider, Firetower Animal Clinic, recommended TVRH/Durham and for that we are extremely grateful. It was well worth the two hour drive for multiple visits to receive such high quality care for Leo. Thank you so much!

On some of the worst days we have experienced, we had the best experience at this emergency vet. We brought our boy in late one night and the doctor (I can’t remember his name) talked us through everything, was extremely patient and made sure we understood everything. The next day came, we had to make the hardest decision and put our boy to sleep. The doctor, Dr, Lanza, was AMAZING. She talked us through everything and was truly there for us through this difficult time. She made sure our George had everything he needed, was comfortable and made the process as easy as it could be. We were having doubts because of how difficult it was and she reassured us that we were doing the right thing for him. She even cried with us when the time came. I couldn’t recommend this place enough or Dr. Lanza enough. She showed so much compassion and care for our boy and our family. She didn’t treat it like she does this everyday. If we ever have to bring another animal to an emergency vet, it will be this one.

I lost my dog Loki in February of this year. He was sick with cancer and struggling to breathe. It was absolutely the worst time of my entire life so far. The team at TVRH were truly angelic when I had to made the decision to end his suffering. They were patient, empathetic and beyond kind to me and my boyfriend as we came to terms with what was happening. The vet who ended up performing his euthanasia actually cried with me as Loki passed. I will NEVER forget that humanness and compassion. As we cried, I could not believe anyone could dedicate their life to a field where such painful emotional experiences occur daily. I am in awe of anyone in this field, they are different. And this hospital is special. I can attest they all sincerely care about you and your fur babies. While this was the hardest experience I’ve ever been through, their kindness was a beautiful silver lining that I honestly didn’t think was possible in that moment. I had no doubt he would be handled with care after he passed and that the people working that day cared about who he was and what he meant to us. I hope to never see these wonderful people again but if you have a sick animal in an emergent situation, take them here. You and your baby will be treated with compassion and dignity.
