How to Save Money at Pruyn Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Being new to the area it was important to find the right vet team for our dog. This was the single-best vet visit we have ever had with any of our pets. 30+ years of animal loving and this team showed the kind of understanding and genuine compassion we’ve always hoped for. Professional, warm, and not rushed our sometimes nervous dog was at easy and actually enjoyed going to the vet. From the moment we entered everyone was calm and friendly. They truly listened as we shared his personality quirks and adjusted their approach appropriately without making it a big deal at all. Animals typically have good instincts about people and there was not one person who made Murphy uncomfortable. For up-to-date, informed, compassionate, patient care visit this team. You will not be disappointed.

This is the best veterinary hospital in my opinion, I can’t believe that I haven’t left a review yet! We were going through some hard times back around 2020 and needed a place for my dog, Totoro to stay until we got it sorted out. They took such good care of him while he was there and made sure to send me pictures which helped so much since it was really difficult being without him for such a long time. When I was able to pick him up they had put together a small photo album for me to take home! I still look through it occasionally for nostalgia purposes.

I’ve been going to Pruyn for years. In the last couple of years they have made some incredible changes. I love the new building, staff, and doctors. The clinic has done a complete 180 and it’s incredible. The doctor we see now is my all time favorite. The only down side I see is that doctors don’t stay. I enjoy working as a team and knowing that the doctors understand my pets, their history and the direction we are taking their care. However, in the last couple years I haven’t met a doctor or tech that I didn’t like. Keep up the good work!!

Luna is a 3 yr old rescued pitbull mix that we have only had since July 4th. We are in our 70’s and had no idea of her health. We went to Pruyn and I was worried about how she would react around other animals. Our experience was wonderful. We were nervous but everyone of the staff had everything under control, putting us at ease as well as Luna. I’m glad we chose them to take care of her and us.

Luckily I have not had an emergency that requires a hospital stay, but I can attest that to their outpatient services. I have seen two different vets at Pruyn and both were quite competent and took the time to answer all my questions. The supporting staff are friendly and efficient. I'm able to book appointments that work for my schedule in a timely manner. The facility is well-maintained, not hectic which helps soothe my dogs vet anxiety. At my last visit I had to wait over an hour to see the vet due to another pet's emergency. The staff kept me updated on the timeline and ended up giving me a coupon to my next visit in appreciation of my patience. The vet did not rush me despite the fact that it was the end of the day and the office was closing. Overall, I am happy with the care my dog receives here and feel the value is good.
