How to Save Money at Blue Mountain Veterinary

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thee entire staffing at Blue Mountain Veterinary are amazing, compassionate, professional, fantastic crew. I found Blue Mountain from word of mouth. They have supercede what was told to me. My animals this year ,several of them have had major health issues back to back due to old age or my foster animals coming to us in disarray and without repor Blue Mountain Veterinary spent 3 months 💙 in a row. Helping me keep their health and well being. I, especially, appreciate when my sister passed suddenly and I had to leave the state . They kept my animals until I could send someone to pick them up . I thank you all from the bottom of my heart ❤️ for your caring and the best Veterinarian care I have received since leaving my hometown. And there it was my best friend who was our Veterinarian. Pam holds the fort down like no other. I missed her while she was on vacation but so thankful she had a good time. Pam's patience organization and just down right friendliness helps soothe many of us uptight pet owners. I've never had a chance to meet the doctors but by their absolute 💯 professionalism and skills I will never go anywhere else. Thank you again and I will always spread the word 🙏🏾 to all about the great care a person's animal will receive from Blue Mountain Veterinary.

I can’t say enough about this facility. I recently had my 14 year old emotional support dog put to sleep due to old age and medical issues which was extremely emotional for me. The staff was incredibly compassionate and understanding. I am so grateful. They even sent me a card after. Rates are fair and service is top notch.

An amazing veterinarian clinic and hospital. One of my dogs had an acute health issue. The veterinary care was first class. In addition Dr Ferguson and all the staff welcomed our visits during the hospitalization which together, I believe, led to full recovery. The staff is friendly and caring of all my dogs, and me, as well

Very dirty office. What looked like blood or some other fluid on the table. It smelt and looked like the floors/etc. hadn’t been cleaned in some time. Office was great at getting us rescheduled. Gal at the desk was very friendly and for the short time we actually saw the dr…he seemed nice. However, we were sent to a dirty room where we waited over 30 minutes before the vet came in. The appointment was for our foster to get shots, he came in and almost instantly gave the vaccines. There wasn’t any inquiry on how he’s doing, no temp taken, etc. I had mentioned he came to us with a double ear infection and I wasn’t sure how they were healing….doctor barley looked in his ears and said ‘looks fine to me.’ That was the extent of our visit. Currently taking him to our personal vet to have more proper care as the smell & constant head shaking would suggest that his ears are not ‘fine.’ {{{UPDATE: He in fact has a really bad double ear infection which was confirmed instantly by our personal vet. Very disappointed.}}} This could be from a miscommunication from the rescue to the vet, but I was very disappointed in the quickness of the interaction and the cleanliness of the office.
