How to Save Money at Missoula Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

WAR TURTLE This place is absolutely amazing. Not only were the staff friendly and fun, but they understand you as a pet parent. It was fun to sit on the ground with the doctor and go over our procedure. He was a hundred percent for taking the best action possible for my boy. I would a hundred percent recommend this place to anyone in need of dental care for their fur baby. And I am happy to say my boy is back to his fun playful self. Thank you Missoula Veterinary Dentistry & Oral surgery. Áho

We took our 17 year old pup Chester who had developed a sudden swelling on his jowl to see Dr. Block. Amazingly we were able to get an appointment for him to be seen within less than 2 days. We were terrified to have him undergo anesthesia but Dr. Block reassured us that she felt comfortable performing the procedure. She gave us the option of having an expert anesthesiologist consult remotely throughout the surgery and we chose that. It was a very challenging 2 hour surgery, but Chester made it through and even his recovery was smooth. Chester is an integral part of our family and we are so grateful to the entire team, all of whom were professional and empathetic. 110% recommend!

We took in our 11 year old Basset Hound with extensive dental infections. The regular vet was not comfortable with the extent of the problem so referred us to Dr. Block and Missoula Vet Dentistry. Long story short our best buddy had two surgeries to remove all but 7 teeth. As a pained owner who has never dealt with this, the entire staff was so patient and helpful with my follow up phone calls. One week later our dog is so much happier and healthier and actually jogs to their office for check ups. Dr. Block and the entire staff were beyond helpful and their love of animals is evident. I would highly recommend them; in fact already have.

I am grateful for Missoula Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery for how patient they were with me throughout this entire process! In the past my 12yr old pomchi has been denied oral care due to her age and concerns around anesthesia. The pain was becoming overwhelming to where she was pawing at her mouth constantly and her breath was on the verge of being lethal. I had my fingers crossed when we went in for the consultation that this would be the place to help my Maple. Jolene was incredibly kind as was the doctor, Katherine Block. After a quick examination, Maple got the thumbs up we had been hoping and praying for! She had all her teeth removed and her energy levels are through the roof! She is playing with her toys now more than ever! Thank you for bearing with me when I had millions of questions throughout her healing process and thank you for giving my girl relief in her golden years!

We adopted a lab with a serious overbite and could not have been more pleased with our experience. Dr. Block took the time to explain the consequences of doing nothing, the options to give our pup a better life, and the follow up required with each option. We chose to have her lower puppy canines and incisors pulled since the canines were already digging into the roof of her mouth and had caused an abscess, with the hope that her lower jaw would have the freedom to grow and her adult teeth would line up when they came in. While we waited for her adult teeth to come in, Dr. Block was willing to see her at any time for check-ups. Her lower jaw ended up not growing out as we hoped so at 6 months we consulted again with Dr. Block on options who again took the time to tell us all the alternatives, what the future would like with each one, and being honest about those options which would require constant, expensive follow-up procedures. We opted to remove the adult canines and incisors on the lower jaw since these were again digging into the roof of her mouth. During each surgery we received a call from Dr. Block telling us what she learned after the x rays and confirming the treatment we would like to proceed with. We were given thorough instructions on recovery procedures and Magnolia just passed a week post surgery with a clean bill of health. Throughout the whole process, all of the staff was very kind and helpful and we were extremely confident that we were given an honest assessment from Dr. Block. We would definitely recommend to anyone needing a dentist for their furry children.
