How to Save Money at Meridian Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place deserves 0 stars but sadly not an option. Receptionist was rude right off the bat and very condescending. Our 6 week old kitten was sleeping in our arms and was only awake for maybe 10 minutes out of the 35 minutes past our appointment time it took for them to give us a room. He was just neutered a day ago and the vet was so rough on his wound and told us that he wasn’t neutered when HE WAS. The girl that came in to do the fecal sample had no clue what she was doing and made my cat screech so loudly i had to walk out in tears because she said she would have to do it again. I understand animals might react badly to certain test but this wasn’t a normal reaction for a animal to give. I went to tell the receptionist my husband was still with the kitten and he would pay when they were done. Before I could even tell her that she looked at me and turned away. They treated my kitten so terribly and wouldn’t even let my husband touch him and give him love when he was screaming so loud. Like others have said, if you love your pets, DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE. It’s unprofessional, unorganized and they are extremely condescending. I will never forget how this place treated us as a first time client/patient.

I'm almost sure they just killed my dog.😞😩. Bro never gets sick. I de wormed him when he was a puppy. I took him there thinking They would treat him and we would leave but they kept my dog went on break and let him die. Didn't monitor him like I did the whole night. I would have stayed with him til his last breath. The woman wrote it off like it's normal he was sick for weeks.. no he was sick for 2 days. Not a good place even If they are cheap. I never seen a price for anything until after she did treatment. She always spoke as if it's something already known. Or matter a factly. Stay away from places like this.

I have a 6-7 yr old pit/lab mix who is a great dog! I thought she was presenting with symptoms of a UTI due to an abnormal potty incident. This is where things get crazy....I am traveling from out of state and was in a panic thinking my dog was uncomfortable and not feeling well. I began calling all of the vet clinics in my area and Meridian Animal Clinic took about two minutes on the phone with me before telling me to just bring her in at that very moment! I was located about 10 mins from the clinic, got there as soon as I could and only had to wait about 10 mins to be seen!!! The staff were AMAZING! My dog loved her visit. The vet did not try to upsell any tests or medication. I decided to do a urinalysis and am watching her for any other symptoms or unusual potty occurrences. Oh, and the bill was only like 45$....and she got her toe nails clipped....as an emergency drop in patient that had never been seen at this clinic before! Not only do I highly recommend this clinic, I will be continuing my vet care needs through this clinic until I leave in a few months. Absolutely amazing staff and service!!!

If I could give no stars I would. If you love your animals, STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET! We dropped off our 2 sweet feline family members on Thursday to be spayed. Making the appointment was a task in itself and should have been a red flag. The receptionist didn’t seem to have any idea what she was doing and the situation had to be explained several times for her to grasp anything. When we arrived on Thursday both of our cats were happy and healthy. The two ladies present at the time that we dropped them off acted as if they had no idea we had an appointment and didn’t have any clue as to what to do. They were not very respectful or welcoming especially given the fact it was an error on their part. When the vet was contacted regarding pickup or the status of our babies no one would answer the phone. Saturday morning we were finally contacted and coldly told that one didn’t make it and the other is ready for pickup. There was no reasoning given for the loss of our family pet or regard for emotion whatsoever. Upon arriving at the Vet to retrieve our babies, we again had to explain in detail why we were there. After waiting outside the vets office for the worker to gather herself we were finally let into the office. Her first words were “so the dr said you might want to take the deceased home to bury?”. She acted as if burying our own family was an odd concept. We assured her that yes, we want to take her home. The worker then left and went to the back for a prolonged time. She returned with one of our children and went to retrieve the other. Seeing her reappear with our family cat tied in a garbage bag that reeked of the smell of death was almost too much to bear. When confronted with the way things were handled and why we were not contacted regarding what happened or the fact there were any complications, she shrugged and stated that someone should have contacted us. They didn’t and we still are left wondering what exactly happened to cause our precious family member not to be able to return home alive after what should have been a simple procedure. We used this vet under the previous Vet, Dr. Harrell and thought very highly of him and his staff. Obviously the new veterinarian does not meet the standards as his predecessor. We will not be returning to this vet and warn anyone who loves their furbabies to stay far away!

We were 3 hrs away from home when our 2 yr old GSP got sick with Kennel Cough. Dr. Williams office worked us in right away on New Year's Eve! We were very pleased with Dr. Williams. He showed Southern hospitality, caring and very attentive to our dog's needs. I wish we lived closer to make him our primary Vet. I highly recommend!
