How to Save Money at Animal Clinic of Columbus

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

10 years and hundreds of dogs together. Never have I had a bad experience. The staff is amazing and Dr Blanton will have my vote until my last breath. Through years of personal pets and rescues, we have rejoiced and celebrated a saved pup. We have also hit our knees and cried together for each and every one too far gone to bring back. Compassion is key in this office, and I will forever be grateful for the experiences they've provided.

This is hands down the best Veterinarian's office in the area! I am new to the area and my dog was attacked by another dog! I was nervous about who to go to for his follow up care until I went to the first visit with Dr. Blanton and her wonderful staff! I was blown away by how much care and love they showed and continue to show to my Jake. They are extremely helpful and just a joy to deal with! We will never trust anyone other then them with our fur babies! Highly recommended!!

I can't thank the staff enough for being so flexible with my fear-reactive dog. They listened to my instructions for handling Jack so he remains calm. Dr. McBride was absolutely fantastic! He came out after seeing my dog Jack and gave me a detailed report of what was done and how my boy did. I am very pleased with every aspect of this clinic.

Really patient with me and my pack. They were very kind to my Boyz. I have 1 that is very vocal (whining and talking) when stressed.I was impressed on how gentle they were. I also really liked the pictures that came with their records so you could see quickly who got on their shots. Was just passing thru, I had a 2 week stay at a local campground, being a full time rv'er it can sometimes be a little difficult to get vet appointment but they got us in no problem. I am grateful for their kind, gentle, approach.

Absolutely horrific experiences here. Boarded our 2 dogs here for 10 days, and they've had ongoing issues since pickup. Both pups were acting very afraid/fearful/not normal for over a week, both lost over 5 pounds and their spines and ribs were extremely prominent (mind you these are pups who love their snacks), both have the beginning of balding spots that is still continuing to get excessively worse (another vet confirmed it's mange, picked up from another animal who was infected), one had thick scabs on her elbows and now shes completely bald on both, looking like injuries ocurred, one of our pups had a cough and very heavy, worrisome, breathing that has gotten worse and is being seen at another vet for this. NONE of these problems were relayed to us at pickup, only the statement of.. "some dogs don't board well". Guess what, our dogs have board many other places, in different countries, stateside, and we've never occurred any of these issues, so that really hit home for us with how horrible our pets were cared for here. Now here comes the best part. We are military and we were making an extremely stressful move overseas. Animal Clinic had our girl booked in for an international health cert. Over a month in advance. We arrive with her on her appointment day and time (Wednesday am; we were leaving Saturday am, but the clinic confirmed this day would be best to receive by Friday with the USDA endorsement) to be told they had horrible news of no vet that day. What takes the cake is the excuse of saying my girl wasn't registered in their clinic, so they didn't have a number to call me LAST WEEK to inform me. Yall JUST boarded her, and called me 3 times during that boarding for questions regarding our pups. They played clueless, and went and pulled her file to say, Oh she is in here. Now, I'll give some acknowledgement to their suggestion of a vet an hour away who was extraordinary with seeing our girl and doing her paperwork on such short notice, but that is all they deserve at this clinic. Oh, and they were suppose to send over all of her records to the vet we traveled to. Arrived and they received NOTHING. And it was all the important documents for her health certificate. Avoid this vet at all costs. They do not care about you or your pets.
