How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Missouri Animal Cancer Care
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

You can compare coverage options from multiple providers to find a plan that fits your budget and your pet’s healthcare needs.
Getting to Know Your Veterinarian
Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.
Experience
Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.
Facility Tour
If available, touring the clinic can help you and your pet feel more comfortable before the first visit.
Final Note
Pet care decisions often involve both medical and financial considerations. Having access to trusted veterinary information alongside pet insurance comparisons can help pet parents feel more confident when planning for their pet’s health and wellbeing.

I’m a bit disappointed after today’s visit. Not in the staff or the facility necessarily but just for a $300 first visit the vet said either I could spend an additional $2300 on a CT scan (traveling elsewhere) for the potential of more answers (the other machines were broken there) or she spent a good 20 mins recommending a questionable mushroom supplement. I did request an additional $250 in bloodwork which was nothing more than your standard vet clinic could run (CBC) for half the price with no helpful answers regarding my dogs cancer. I know literally nothing more on my dog’s cancer after this visit which is such a disappointment. I’m shocked they didn’t have specialize treatment or care. They didn’t offer additional care. There was literally no help they offered outside of the CT scan or mushroom supplement. I realize vet oncology clinics don’t have a great success rate but I do wish there was a warning: You need to be prepared to spend the down payment on a car for just some potential answers or you can just order mushroom supplements from amazon. Why hasn’t vet medicine improved beyond 3rd world care? If I knew the limitations I would have not brought my dog in. I wouldn’t repeat this process with my dog as it was not helpful in any way.

Dr. Rippey did everything she could to help my 15 year old orange tabby cat Leo, but unfortunately with stage 4 cancer, squamous cell carcinoma in the anal glands, its hard to come back from that. However, we did get an extra 3 months with my handsome guy and I will forever be grateful for that.

I love the staff of Mizzou Animal Cancer and Dermatology. They are so very caring and compassionate. They care for not only the furbabies, but their parents as well.
