How to Save Money at Troy & Wentzville Veterinary Clinics
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
They are just great. Affordable with 3 dogs, the loves of our lives (Crazy Dog mom here) they are just comfortable and to the point on current needs. No pressure on unessary treatments, or products. Always able to accomodate and schedule you in quickly. We use to go to Animal Medical Center in Wentzville. Their prices went sky high and their service was beyond disappointing when our beautiful golden started having seizures. The day she passed we tried calling several times to only keep getting a recording they were in a team meeting. I was reluctant to make a change before that day because they had been there since puppies. Now I am so glad I did. I wanted a vet that cared about my dogs, not how much they could charge us for services needed. I highly recommend this clinic. I feel my dogs are in excellent care here. I never post reviews but thats how much they mean to me and my girls.

Highly impressed with Dr Ragan. He was recommended to me by several people as the go-to veterinarian for bulldogs. Upon arrival with my English bulldog, sure enough there were two other English bulldogs there 😍. He was able to provide care today, and possibly avoid surgery in the future. And even if we do go down the surgery road I’m confident I’m at the right place. Great care. Very fair pricing. Able to schedule and get in with ease. Thank you Dr Ragan and staff!

My family has trusted this clinic for decades! Recently, Dr. Rowles removed a mass from my dog’s leg and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome! Friendly staff, knowledgeable providers, clean facilities, and very fair prices.

Extremely Disappointed After 10 Years of Loyalty I’ve been a loyal client of this veterinary office for over 10 years, bringing multiple dogs here and always recommending them to friends and family. Until recently, I’ve had nothing but positive experiences—fair, honest, and compassionate care. Unfortunately, today was a turning point that left me feeling blindsided, unvalued, and disappointed. I stopped in for what should have been a routine $20 nail trim and a rabies shot for my 5-year-old Shepherd. At check-in, the front desk mentioned she was due for a few more vaccines—no problem. Once we were in the room, the doctor was great, noticed some swollen lymph nodes, and discussed running several tests. However, no one ever mentioned cost. At checkout, I was shocked to be handed a bill close to $500. When I asked if I could be billed, as I’ve been in the past for larger amounts and always paid, I was told everything was due immediately. The receptionist’s tone was cold and unhelpful. When I expressed my frustration and said I’d like to speak to the doctor, she left, only to return and say the business manager approved removing the tests, leaving me with a $90 bill for just the “visit” and trim not even any vaccines. When I told her this experience was driving away a loyal, long-term customer, her attitude was indifferent—as if it didn’t matter at all. This is not how you treat loyal customers. In all the years I’ve trusted this facility, I’ve never felt so dismissed or misled. Costs should be communicated before tests are done, not after the fact with a demand for immediate payment. I will no longer recommend this practice or any of its affiliates. If you value transparency, respect, and trust, I suggest you look elsewhere. What used to be a trusted clinic now feels more like a business driven by profit over patients.

Yesterday we had to say goodbye to my best friend WIllie. The vet was very empathetic and walked us through what to expect during the process. While it was one of the saddest days I've had, I am grateful for everything they did.
