How to Save Money at Woodbury Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Staff was very friendly. They treated my new pup with her first round of shots and they gave us a little puppy gift bag that had some samples in it. I let them know about my older dog as well and I will be taking him in for a check up soon.

It's always a pleasant experience at the Woodbury Animal Hospital. The staff are very nice to my dog and I. And the Veterinarians are knowledgeable, courteous, and compassionate about my dog's needs. I refer my family members to have their dogs seen here as well because of how much I trust them with my dog's health.

My dog was seen at the animal emergency vet in Oakdale and I was told to follow up with my vet if he was not showing improvement. I called Woodbury animal hospital and was told to come in. We arrived and were told our appointment was in 4 days. The clinic refused to see my dog, we were told to return to the emergency vet. My dog is very sick. As a long time client, I would have expected some compassion from the clinic but I was wrong. I am very disappointed in Woodbury Animal Hospital and will be looking for another veterinarian.

I don't have all the words to express how grateful I am for the team here at Woodbury animal hospital. We woke up the morning of July 17th to our old Chihuahua unable to walk (possibe stroke)and crying out in pain. She also has heart failure. I called my vet of 30 yrs to be told I would have to wait until 5pm for an appointment. We couldn't let her suffer for many hours. My husband called Woodbury animal hospital and even though we were not clients they made and exception for us. They were compassionate and friendly. We are very Thankful.

We have been coming here for many years and will continue coming here until our dog passes. We have a pitbull mix and I have never felt like staff treated my dog in any negative manner. I can only speak from my own experiences, but they are always very kind. Her favorite part about going to the vet is getting weighed since they give her treats and a lot of pets. They do muzzle her if they’re touching her a lot or trimming her nails. Our dog is a rescue and she is skiddish to unfamiliar tasks or settings. I honestly prefer she’s muzzled for her and staff’s safety. I have seen other breeds muzzled here as well. I would hate for our dog to react negatively out of fear. She has grown to love our kids a lot, she probably loves them more than she does us. You can often find her sleeping with them or bringing her toys to them. She’s a big cuddler and prefers to be by people versus alone. She’s also a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to storms and the vacuum cleaner. Our eldest child will often cover her with blankets when she’s having a hard time. As you can tell she is a member of our family and if I ever felt like they were treating her in any negative manner we wouldn’t come here. Dr. Tim has also shared stories regarding owning a pittbull in the past. I wanted to share our experience in the event someone may be strayed away from here. Our dog gets excited coming here and I find that rare!
