How to Save Money at Veterinary Dentistry Specialists

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We are so thankful to Dr. Adrian, and the entire staff for being so responsive and caring for our kitty Oliver, who has been through so much with his jaw. It’s a genuine, honest care and love felt the minute we walked into the office seeing our fur baby’s name on a welcome board. Though his procedure was put on hold, it was the right decision and was due to all the care and focus on Oliver’s well-being. We have a plan for a revisit and pray all goes well. We were left with a feeling of relief and faith in their care for Oliver, which is not always the case. We are so thankful to have VDS as a place we can go for dental needs for our cats and dogs. We highly recommend anyone who needs dental speciality for their special pet. Dr. Adrian is down to earth, kind, smart and technical. The set up at their location is so nice and well thought out for every patient. Thanks again for being so responsive and caring. We look forward to next steps with Oliver. Thanks for treating Oliver and us like royalty!🫅

I brought Royalty to this clinic today. The Queen, Cherry, wishes to leave this review. 📜 Royal Proclamation of Gratitude 📜 By Order of Her Most Gracious Majesty, Queen Cherry. Let it be known throughout the Queendom: On the 26th day of June, in the Year of our Queen 2025, Her Majesty did grace the halls of Veterinary Dentistry Specialists with her regal presence. Upon arrival, she was met not as a mere mortal feline, but with the full decorum befitting her station: — Her name, boldly inscribed in celebratory font. — Her royal sigil, the twin cherries, lovingly rendered in crimson chalk. — A staff of loyal subjects who tended to her with admiration, expertise, and great care. To the Royal Toothsmiths and their attendants, Her Majesty extends her most royal thanks for recognizing her sovereignty and ensuring her experience was as painless as it was prestigious. In recognition of this noble treatment, the Queen hereby bestows upon Veterinary Dentistry Specialists the honorary title of: Keepers of the Crown Canines and Guardians of the Royal Gums. May your halls remain spotless, your hearts kind, and your treats plentiful. Thus is her will. Thus it shall be. 🐾 👑 🍒

Words cannot express how grateful we are to the entire staff at VDS. I’d give them a 10 star review if I could. Our 18 year old Schnauzer-Terrier mix Griff was drooling blood and his vet thought he had one or more abscessed teeth. Due to his age, his vet and we were very concerned about him going under anesthesia. We are so thankful we found VDS. We met with Dr Adrian an hour after we called at 8 am and learned right away that Griff didn’t have an abscess tooth, he had a large mass inside his mouth on his cheek. Dr Adrian rearranged his day and prioritized Griff based on the seriousness of his situation, and Griff was in surgery by 2 pm that same day! My poor baby had been literally chewing on the mass while he was eating and we never knew it. We were so impressed with Dr Adrian and Dr Wendt-Hornickle. It was so obvious that they are the best in their fields. They explained the plan thoroughly with such care and honesty. We trusted them totally even though we just met them. Griff is now recovering nicely from his mass removal surgery. The followed up texts and phone calls after surgery from Dr Adrian and his staff are much appreciated by us. If your fur baby needs any dental/mouth expert help, please give them a call, they literally were life savers for Griff.

Guero was in a lot of pain when he tried to open his mouth. Primary vet assumed tooth pain and referred us to a doggy dentist assuming it was a dental issue and assuming we could save his young teeth. VDS called me ASAP and was able to get us an appointment promptly. They truly showed their sympathy and the fact that they cared. Upon further diagnostic (CT) they were able to tell it was not a tooth issue! They didn’t try to pull any teeth unnecessarily! I really appreciated that. The CT showed another issue that may need a different referral (another story but thanks to this we are headed in the right direction). Dr. Adrain talked down my nerves and answered all my questions. He made sure we understood what was going on. Every single staff member made us feel more at ease and were extremely nice and helpful.

From the moment the doctor came in the room, my dog loved him instantly which is unusual for her. He sat on the floor at her level and spoke with us. He explained everything in great detail including how his philosophy which is to address the current issues and set her up for future success. He answered all of our questions in great detail. I have a French Bulldog with not the greatest of genetics. I learned they are not able to perform the soft palate surgery. Her teeth are crowded in her mouth and she has deep face wrinkles. He took out 7 of her teeth (3 of them were fighting for the same space) and showed them to us. They were all tiny and thin teeth. They take before and after photos and x-rays. He explained everything he did and why in great detail. I appreciate this. The day after the procedure I could tell she felt better, the abscess in her cheeks was gone and the shape of her lips returned to normal. I highly recommend this dentist.
