How to Save Money at River Rapids Pet Hospital + Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I needed a same day appointment for my Freckles and got in with doctor Will. The team was extremely gentle with my baby and explained the situation well even when I had to ask repeated questions because I was having a hard time processing. They were supportive of my decision to euthanize and were caring through the process and my tears. Thank you for all you do.

I am new to the area and I have a very, sweet 20 YO kitty. She stopped eating and became very weak. We called River Rapids and we're able to see Dr. Will and nurse Becca within an hour. Both Dr. will and Becca were outstanding! They explained everything throughly and clearly. Very upfront about pricing and reasonable. Once the labs came back Dr. Will worked with us to develop a care plan for my old lady and the next day she spent the day in the hospital getting fluids and being observed. When we came back to pick her up and get the updated labs Dr. Will hit the nail on the head. While they close at 4pm Dr. Will and Becca stayed after to make sure we were comfortable with the treatment plan. Also, Dr. Will was so kind to give me his private number to text him in case we needed help over the weekend. He wanted to make sure we didn't need to spend unnecessary money when he could consult over the phone. I called in Monday am to give an update and Miss Mon- Mon is doing great. I was so happy that Monika and our family were so cared for, that i had to bring some treats from Monika. I was greated by name and hugged. I was told how much they "loved my old lady".I will definitely be back with my fur babies. Very impressive group! Thank you for showing the love and caring every fur- family deserves. You all clearly pick the right profession.

Edit: this is now ✨our✨ vet office and we have visited several times. I have received personal call backs from the providers with blood work results and answers from emails I have sent. This office is AMAZING! I will be booking a mass removal surgery from my gal’s face soon and I have all the confidence in their ability and care. I have been to this clinic for both the ER and an office visit. All of their staff are great. Very nice, friendly, kind, caring, they listen and answer all questions. They never shoo you out of the room. Both visits I walked in the door and was escorted right into a room, which are clean, spacious, and have a comfortable bench. It doesn’t “smell like a vets office.” There is no dog or cat stank in the room, it’s very clean. My ER visit was great, my female dog ate a toxic plant and they induced vomiting to help her. They offered to “let me see” which I wanted to, because I’m a hover owner. So they let me come into the back and see what was going on, which made me feel very safe and that she was in great hands. They baby talked her while she was feeling bad and she absolutely loves it there. They recognized us when we came back for the office visit, so that was very nice. Her office visit was great as well. She was seen for a mass and they did a full exam and went over all of my options in depth and detail. I brought my male dog along, and he gave their male vet a big sniff on the face & head, not scared, no tail between the legs. He is typically extremely scared and reactive to men. They even offered him a treat and he’s never accepted a treat at any other vets office before, they are both 7 years old. I also have frequently gotten the stink eye for bringing them both if only one is being seen, but not here! They were not unhappy with me to have him there for “moral support.” Great place, wonderful and consistent staff. They are very up front with pricing and don’t have any hidden agendas or weird plans they try to push like some other places.

Yesterday we brought our baby boy Murr in to see Dr. Hale & her team for an exam. We had been looking for a new vet after a traumatic experience in the past & decided to check them out after reading all these rave reviews. So glad we did, because our experience matched every word you see here. The entire team was extremely empathetic with us & did everything they could to help ease our anxieties. It made a world of difference. We had originally scheduled a later date for Murr’s dental work, but when it became clear that the situation was more urgent than we anticipated they made sure to get him in asap. The level of care & attention this team gave us is unmatched in my experience. I feel confident we made the right choice with them & will be sticking with them for sure. Thank you so much team!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I'm just reading reviews looking for a veterinarian in my area and I'm just wondering why the staff responds to all the good reviews but, fails to respond to those that are not so good reviews. I would think as Vets you would WANT to address concerns immediately and find the solution for the customer and their fur baby. At least acknowledge them. And try to make it right especially if they paid for your services. It's expensive and our pets are our kiddos. Remember always show compassion towards ALL customers & acknowledge their concerns no matter what. If the vets don't see these reviews then fix the issue with the person who is responding . And do better. Just a thought. I was pleased to see good reviews but the rates sound very expensive and I'm on disability so I'll keep looking for an affordable place to go.
