How to Save Money at Troy Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I started bringing my pets here to Troy Veterinary Hospital after I left my job as a Veterinary Technician at a large private practice, due to medical reasons, about 2 years ago, that was 25 miles away from here. Dr. Tate and her staff have been absolutely wonderful since the first day I met them! They delt with my nervousness and apprehensiveness of actually being a "real client" for the first time ever!! They didn't make me feel like I was overreacting or being overprotective. Dr. Tate was very patient with me as she reviewed my dog & cats long and complicated medical records. She listened to any concerns I had. She answered all of my questions regarding her practice and regarding my pets. Her Technicians, Assistants, and Receptionists are always extremely helpful and friendly. They are also genuinely happy to see my dog when she comes in and they are even happy to see my cat that doesn't like to be there! I would highly, highly recommend Troy Veterinary Hospital to anyone looking for a new Veterinarian, new to the area, or in need of a Veterinarian with a new pet. And this is coming from a Technician that worked in a very large high-end private practice for 20 years and in the field for 27 years. It proves that again, It is not the size of your practice, It is the quality of medicine you practice, your staff's professionalism and compassion that makes all the difference!!! Thank you Dr. Tate and Staff for taking such good care of Maddi and Leonidas ❤❤❤

I had to find a new veterinarian for my cat & I am so happy I found Dr. Berk at Troy Veterinary Hospital. She was just genuinely nice & very informative. She was also very patient, not in a big rush as some vet's seem to be. My people picky cat let her do the exam, vaccinations & all with no complaints, that right there says it all! I was also greeted with a hello & a smile by the receptionist as soon as I opened the door. The office and exam room were both comfortable and clean and my cat was allowed to roam free in the exam room & check everything out before we saw the doctor, that seemed to make her much more at ease with everything. After everything was done including Dr. Berk answering my many questions I held my breath at the front desk while waiting to hear how much this was going to cost me, It was way less than what I was guessing in my head and I was very happy with that besides being able to breath again! My vet search is done, they're stuck with us now :)

We have been taking Lilo and Stitch to Dr. Tate since we first brought them home; 17 and 13 years later, respectively, Dr. Tate was there with us when we had to say goodbye. The entire staff is wonderful and has given our little pups the best care and compassion for over a decade. When they were sick, Dr. Tate always spent extra time on the phone with us to go over care and options, answering all questions. We are so thankful and will continue to visit and use their services with our new puppy as well.

I brought my rabbit here as Dr. Tate was recommended by the rescue I got my bun from. GOOD small pet vets are hard to come by as most vets cater to dogs & cats. Dr. Tate and the entire staff were very knowledgeable & amazing with my bun. Through surgeries, nail clippings, check ups & 1 scare, I was thankful & confident in them. When my bun passed away they were so thoughtful & supportive. 10/10 would recommend & bring any of my future pets here.

This place is absolutely wonderful. They don’t normally take walk-ins but when I trimmed my dog’s nail too short and it wouldn’t stop bleeding, they got the bleeding stopped and put her in a cone for a very, very reasonable price. They were all very friendly, too!
