How to Save Money at Pet Urgent Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am so grateful for this urgent care. A couple of weeks ago, our sweet old lady cat suddenly lost the use of her back legs and started foaming at the mouth. One minute she was fine, and the next we were in full panic mode at 10 pm, racing out the door without even knowing where we were going. My mom mentioned this place while I was in the phone in the car freaking out and thank goodness she did. We had never been there before, but the moment we came running in with our cat in our arms, they took her immediately. No paperwork, no waiting room torture, just fast, compassionate action. We already knew she wasn’t coming home with us, but they made sure she wasn’t suffering any longer than necessary, and they still gave us the time and space to be with her through those last moments. Losing her was heartbreaking, but the way this clinic handled everything… I can only describe it as grace in the middle of chaos. I’m incredibly grateful for their kindness, their speed, and the dignity they gave our girl. If you ever find yourself in a true emergency with your pet, these are the people you want on your side.

I recently took my Collie in since he did not seem to be responding too well to some other antibiotics we were p prescribed by our beloved vet office that is about 40 minutes farther. PUC suggested trying a broader antibiotic, which we did. It did produce some loose stool on my collie but we returned and they gave us a stool firmer and another medication. Problem solved!! The place is calm, organized, professional and compassionate!!

10/10 best experience I could ask for. My puppy ingested marijuana on our walk and started showing symptoms shortly after. I called every vet near me and they all had a long wait, one even said over 8 hours! I was desperate enough to drive anywhere at that point. I gave this location a call and they said they could get me in right away. I drove 45 minutes to get here and I’m glad I did. The staff is SO nice and caring. We were in and out within an hour. Thankfully pup will be just fine, just have to ride out the high.

I was referred to this urgent care after my cat had an emergency that paralyzed his back legs. Unfortunately this was a sign of a greater issue and he had to be put to sleep. This is every pet owners worst day but the compassion, caring, and support of the team helped when we needed it most. This place cares for both the pets and the owners. Based my on experience I highly recommend.

I had a wonderful experience at PUC. Our 3 year old Chiweenie was vomiting small blood clots and we took him in on a Monday morning from the recommendation of my vet. I’ve had dogs all my life and never once had to take them to an urgent care or ER so I was nervous about the wait and getting him in quickly, but we were greeted and taken right back to a room. Filled out the intake forms and waited for about 15 minutes for the vet tech to come and talk to me about Cooper. I explained everything on what was going on with him. I understood that testing would need to done to determine the cause. Everything was explained to me on what that testing was going to be, plus the cost (verbal estimate) for all of the testing upfront. No problems at all with any of that. Yes, the sticker shock is something, but I wasn’t expecting them to just be able to look at Cooper and say “aha, this is what is causing this”. They stated they would call me in a few hours with the results and that is exactly what happened. 2 hours later I get a call about his results. His bloodwork showed pancreatitis along with a strong case of dehydration and a fever. He would need an overnight stay, pain meds, antibiotics, and IV fluids. Yes it was expensive, but I wasn’t about to shop my sick pet around for a better “deal”. Start the treatment! I was able to pick Cooper back up the following day once all his vitals had improved, I was sent home with two medications and a case of prescription dog food to help with his digestion. Of course I had questions throughout the process and they were able to answer them. I called to check on him and they provided me with updates everytime I called. I had a few questions once I came to pick him up and they were fully answered. Everything I needed to do at home for him was fully explained to me. There are signs and pamphlets throughout the facility offering the CareCredit and Cherry Payment Plans. I did apply for the Cherry payment plan and was approved. (That’s a pretty simple process as well.) All in all, pets are expensive if there is an emergency. But with the care we were given, the questions that were answered, the quickness of getting him in…we wouldn’t go anywhere else.
