How to Save Money at Petco Vaccination Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have a pup training to be an ESA pet, it was sad to see him in anxiety after this visit. The tech dug around in his leg, consistently poking, and fishing around for his vein which on top of the dog that started barking at him made him feel anxiety to being with. His first clinic was fantastic I purchased him a 20 femur after his first clinic.... This one left my dog wanting to hide from me, not wanting to leave the car nor go in the house. Then left to ask the groomer questions, I kid you not this lady turned her nose up and told me they couldn't see us before she even heard my question, glad we were able to get him seen for shots but on my life. I would not return for grooming nor vaccines solely based on my recent experience. Not happy. Had to double back and get my dog rabies tag. Cause they are supposed to provide a tag once you pay for the vaccine. Yeah just forget ours! The male tech was pretty helpful. And tried to make it better. #Troylocation

All of the Vet Techs were extremely informative. I was given a lot of information and felt very knowledgable after the visit. They also treated my pup with love and care which made me feel very comfortable.

A very helpful place to stop by for yearly and 3-year well-priced vacation and rabies AND meditation! TY The information side-effects sheet helped me be okay with a little tired and lazy dog but his reactions were ALL on the normal side. He was very tied, my 9 lb. Chihauhau and no appetite.Normal. A worried dog dad wants to be certain! He feels great today. Even wants food. TY And for a guide sheet to pet trauma and dog/cat ER services. Knowing and preventing preparation and information, helps navigate my pets health more easily. Thanks, Vetco and Petco.

Completely unprofessional and unreliable. I scheduled an appointment for 12:55 to get my dog’s canine influenza vaccine. About an hour and a half prior to my appointment I started to get calls and texts from what appeared to be one of the clinic employee’s personal phones asking me to come in earlier because I was the last appointment of the day. I responded and let them know that I would be keeping my original appointment time since I work during the day and could not move it, to which I was warned that if I was more than 5 minutes late they would cancel my appointment. I showed up early, and it was clear they didn’t read my appointment request because when I told them my name they asked what service I needed for my dog, I told them that she needed the canine influenza vax, and they told me they didn’t have it. I would avoid vetco clinics at all costs - they clearly just want to go home as early as they can and don’t take the time to let customers know that the services they ask for aren’t actually available.

I took my dog for rabie vaccination. After the vaccination, they were going to send me the vaccination report to my email. However, I waited several hours and I did not receive the report. I called the office and waited at least 20 minutes to talk to somebody. They revised all my contact information including my email address and I would receive the report in a few minutes. I waited another one hour and I did not receive any report. I called them again and asked them the problem and wanted to talk to the manager and agent made me to wait at leased 15 minutes and the agent hung up the phone. Again I called the office and reported the incidence and agent said that manager would call me in a few hours and I still did not receive any call. I called the office again and agent checked my email and It was wrong and corrected it. All my personal information was sent different email address and they made me very vulnerable. Now , I do not know how to correct their mistake!!
