How to Save Money at Hope Animal Clinic - Canton Veterinary hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We're new cat parents and we have a 1 year old female Bombay cat. For two days straight she was crying all night due to being in heat and we needed to find the best price to get her spayed. This is a great place to take your pets! Everyone was so loving and caring towards my sweet little Binx. They took great care of her! Binx is doing great!

Dr. Moideen and his staff are professional and compassionate. We saw Dr. Moideen for a tumor removal surgery for our dog, Mowgli. Mowgli recovered so seamlessly from the procedure and he has not had any new tumors since! We are so thankful for his excellent care and kindness as a veterinarian. Thank you for all of your hard work! We will definitely be going to this clinic for all of our future needs!

I had a frustrating experience at this vet during my third visit. I brought in my pup, Maisy, who had been dealing with some GI distress for over a week. I saw a different vet than I normally do, and after examining Maisy, she recommended a fecal test, blood test, and X-ray. She mentioned that it likely wasn’t anything serious and that Maisy might have just eaten something that upset her stomach. After reviewing the options, I decided to decline the X-ray, as Maisy’s only symptom was diarrhea, and she was otherwise eating, drinking, and acting normally. The vet strongly encouraged the X-ray, but I chose to wait for the results of the fecal test first, especially since the X-ray would cost around $200. I felt this decision was within my right as a pet owner. The vet then told me that if I didn’t do the X-ray, Maisy would likely die in three days from a potential blockage, which seemed like a drastic shift in her initial assessment. I pointed out that Maisy’s symptoms had been ongoing for over a week, and if she were in critical condition, I would have expected her to deteriorate by now. The vet’s response was dismissive (she laughed at me), and she suggested I’d have to take Maisy to an animal hospital at an even higher cost. Despite my concerns, I reiterated that I didn’t feel the X-ray was necessary at that point. She responded by rolling her eyes and saying “okay” before leaving the room. To make matters worse, she proceeded to loudly discuss my decision with the staff in the hallway, criticizing me as irresponsible and making me feel uncomfortable in the process. The tests they conducted on-site didn’t show any concerning issues, but they said the lab results might provide more clarity. However, the vet continued to pressure me to get the X-ray as I was leaving, despite my repeated declinations. Now, four days later, Maisy is completely back to normal—eating, drinking, playing, and no longer experiencing any GI distress. The issue resolved itself naturally, and she didn’t die as predicted. When I later requested my records, I was shocked to read the vet’s notes. She painted me as rude and dismissive, implying that I had denied treatment because I “knew” my dog wasn’t really sick, which was far from the truth. This was the tipping point for me. I wasn’t planning on leaving the practice, but reading the notes left me feeling unfairly judged. I understand that vets need to cover all bases, but I don’t appreciate being gaslit into thinking that if I didn’t spend another $200, my dog’s life was at risk. I also don’t believe it’s fair for a vet to leave notes in my dog’s medical record suggesting that I was unreasonable for declining a service I didn’t feel was necessary. I would not recommend this vet to others, especially if you’re not comfortable with being pressured into unnecessary treatments. If Maisy had shown more concerning symptoms, I would have agreed to the X-ray without hesitation. But in this case, it was simply a mild stomach upset that resolved with time. Save yourself the frustration and consider other options.

I recently brought my beloved dog, Sheroo, to Hope Animal Clinic for a tumor removal surgery. Dr. Moideen and their team were absolutely phenomenal throughout the entire process. Dr. Moideen explained the procedure thoroughly, answering all my questions patiently and putting my worried mind at ease. The staff at Hope Animal Clinic were incredibly kind and attentive, both to me and Sheroo.
