How to Save Money at Blissfield Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

There's three things I've experienced with this vet service since they've taken over from when Dr. Sue ran this clinic. First, their hours have been drastically reduced. I had a very simple treatment that I needed for my pets, which could have been taking care of without an appointment. They required me to make an appointment, yet they couldn't get them in for two whole weeks when I was already an existing client. The problem got much much worse over that 2 week period, and they browbeat me for the problem being so bad as though I was negligent. 2- Their prices are way way way way way out of line. I can find the same treatment for my pets at half of the price they quoted me. In addition to that, if you're going to use this vet service, make sure you bring cash. They charge 3.5% on any card purchases, and they don't tell you that when you book an appointment. They wait until you're stuck there and you owe the money. That's when they drop that little nugget of information in on you. Lastly, I've used the same online pharmacy twice now without any problems for this treatment that my pets need. Unfortunately Blissfield Veterinary Services have suddenly decided to make things much more complicated for me. The online pharmacy emailed me twice to let me know that they had faxed the vet service twice with no response. Upon calling the clinic, I was informed that apparently their "fax machine had not been working so well recently". I pushed back and I explained that there's never been a problem before, and at the exorbitant prices they're charging their clients, it's well within my expectation that they should have a working fax machine. I asked if the pharmacy could email them and was explained that no because of scam pharmacies they won't do email , because of online pharmacies that are scams. I reminded this person who I was told as a manager that this is a reputable online pharmacy that they have given a prescription to twice already and I've received it, and my pets have received medication from this reputable Pharmacy. The employee (a manager as i was told) said basically too bad so sad you have to drive in here and pick it up. Because the prescription is now coming from me instead of the vet, the pharmacy won't accept an email and requires me to mail in the physical prescription. This causes significant delays in my pets receiving their treatment. No different than requiring a appointment and making the client wait two weeks as they did to me almost a year ago. I don't put this on the online pharmacy, I put this directly on Blissfield Veterinary service. If you truly care about pets, why make pet owners go through all of these headaches for a simple preventative treatment? There's no way I would take my pets that I love back to this clinic. I would seriously question bringing an animal that I found suffering on the side of the road to this clinic. Sense this Clinic has changed ownership, it's become a clear money grab that will go to Great Lengths to cause a pet owner grief if they don't "fall in line". Sorry Dr Hunt. Capitalism is a two-edged sword, and there are too many vet clinics out there for me to feel one bit comfortable taking my pets back to yours for fear of their safety.

I had to put my dog down that I've had since I was 13. I've never been to this vet but I heard good things. And everyone was right, this place was amazing. All the staff was very discrete, patient and reassuring with the whole process. They took their time and were very thorough. They handled my pup so gently and cared for her so well. I felt very comfortable here. Will definitely be back if my other animals need any medical assistance!

Not the place to go if you're on a budget. We we're quoted one price for just some basic blood work to make sure everything was ok with our dog, my wife goes to pay and it's all the sudden $120 more than what we were quoted. Now because of this we can't buy groceries for ourselves for 2 weeks and our dog has to go without dog food for 2 weeks as well. When the amount was questioned my wife just got the run around. I guess even the vets are just as scummy as the rest of the medical field.
