How to Save Money at Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Since my husband and I moved up to New Hampshire, we have been bringing our three dogs to Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital. Every single visit was a pleasure. From the reminders of important shots for them to the last minute emergency visits. Highly recommend them….

My wife called a day ahead to schedule a appointment for her French Bulldog that is limping. They told her to they had time to have her dog to be seen. She arrives on time and waits over an hour with no communication from staff. She than goes to the counter to aquire about the wait and all they said is she could reschedule the visit. No apologies, nothing... poor customer service at its finest. This is not a one off with their customer service. I would think twice before scheduling an appointment. I will say the actual veterinary staff is amazing. Their front desk is the issue.

This used to be a wonderful place to take your animals but not any longer. They only care about the money and not the safety or well being of animals. The woman who works there Mary, is incredibly rude and inconsiderate. I would never allow someone like her to work for my company. This establishment should be ashamed of themselves. And a big warning to everyone DO NOT bring your Guinea pigs here. They “claim” they have the knowledge to examine Guinea pigs but it is a LIE. I had brought my Guinea pig there because he wasn’t eating or acting right, and they told me he was perfectly fine. He was dead a few days after the appointment where I was told he was “fine and healthy”. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMALS.

Don’t normally write a bad review but seems to only about money not animal welfare. Can’t pull porcupine quills for a dog in pain that is suffering during normal business hours! Nothing says caring like not willing to help an injured member of my family. Thank you!

All they care about is the Mighty Dollar. $$$ My dog ( my little boy, a male 10 mnth) was supposed to have surgery to be fixed. When I first made the appointment, I asked what the amount would be. I was told between $270 and $330. The day before the surgery I called to ask some questions regarding the surgery, and verify the amount. The receptionist said it was double the amount that was told to me. The next thing, a medical technician named ( Mary), got on the phone and accused me of yelling and screaming at the reception. I was flabbergasted, I dint know what she was talking about. The technician (Mary) was extremely rude, uncaring, and just flat out nasty. I finily had enough, and said I've been coming here for many, many years, and I have never been treated so disrespectfu, so rudely. I was truly surprised. I stated how concern I was for my baby having surgery. The tech Mary, replied that she was going to be part of my dog surgery. That made me extremely worried. I said to the tech, if you are able to lie about me,( statting that I was screaming and being rude) what makes you think that I can trust you? I canceled the appointment, and I'm leaving Fryeburg Veterans Hospital for good. ( If the technician Mary had come on the phone and said; " How may I help you, what are your concerns? Everything would have turned out differently.) For the first time I felt that all they truly care about is the Mighty Dollar, not my little boy. I would recommend to everyone, please bring your pets elsewhere. Were your pet are treated with love and kindness. Not the Mighty Dollor comes first.
