How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Waldorf Emergency Care

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

Six months ago our kitten, Scar, suffered a dog attack. On our way to Waldorf Emergency Care, our kitty was in a vegetative like state. Mostly unresponsive, unable to move, was rapidly breathing, and sometimes would make minimal noises of distress. Unfortunately, it turns out he had a fractured spine that left him partially paralyzed and was declining. Luckily, the vet staff were able to stabilize him and hospitalized him for the weekend. During that time, Scar perked up and was able to start moving around, eating, and was discharged home. No one thought he was going to make it, but I’m forever grateful of the staff at this vet for saving his life. He is now 9 months old and thriving. Thank you Dr. Ken Fox and staff!

This past Monday, we said goodbye to our beloved dog, Ginger. Ginger's breed does not matter, nor does her size or any other characteristic! What matters most is that when we needed someone the most, Waldorf Emergency Care was there (we live in northern Calvert County). We would especially like to give a big shout-out and thank you to Jessica, who was on duty that night. We had called ahead, and when we arrived, she took care of our needs (confirming that our girl had passed while enroute) promptly with care and compassion. We can not thank her enough for how she treated us that night! Based on our experience, we would definitely recommend this veterinary hospital!

They first diagnosed my pet with Pneumonia, but came back 8 hours later and another vet said it looks like he has congestive heart failure instead.. My cat did get slightly better, but I realize he does now have a condition for life.. I do feel like they nickel and dime you for everything in that hospital.. I don’t think the care was THAT great. Some workers had empathy and some could care less, it’s a job.. When I went to pick him up, it took hours, just to pick up my animal from the hospital.. I also, I didn’t feel neither I or my pet were amazingly cared for.. I felt like it was alllllllllll about the money! 💰 They kept asking for money!

I don't care to share much. I lost a beloved cat, 14 years old, stopped eating, breathing hard only 2 days recently, a massive tumor,we had to put her down. Excellent Vets here! Our shittyfied La Plata Animal Hospital will not take emergency pets. Since Dr. Cunningham passed. Care here is most excellent and compassionate . The cost is Premium for an Emergency visit. Zoe, I miss you and love you.

My dog has been sick all week and finally I felt like she had hit a turning point in the wrong direction. The receptionist was very nice and I appreciated that they were clear on the wait time and that I could see where my dog was in line via their screen. All the techs were very sweet to my dog and the doctor was very helpful in explaining what was wrong and making the decision to keep her their overnight. When we picked her up the next evening I knew I made the right call. Yes it's expensive but no more than her regular vet. They were very clear with the cost and we've had great follow up contact with them. My dog Addy is doing much better, she still has a ways to go, but they brought her back from listless and not eating, to happy and hungery. I would definitely take either of our dogs here in an emergency.
