How to Save Money at Claws N Paws Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had an appointment scheduled 1 week ahead, but received a call the morning of the appointment asking to reschedule. After explaining my cat's condition, they agreed to see her that day. Parking was crowded and inconvenient. The staff seemed friendly, but there was an obvious rush of just wanting to clock out. My cat was seen by a different vet than expected, and he was not well versed with the cat’s condition. The hospital definitely seemed more tailored for dogs. They asked for records by text prior to the appointment after I already sent an email of the records. While they repeated info that was already in the records (concluding they didn’t check the email at all) the vet was banging on the table my cat was on, making her more uncomfortable than she already was. Additionally, aspirin was recommended for pain before any blood work, they did not say if I could watch or stay in the room to wait, just took my cat. They gave me a receipt without an after-visit summary at checkout. Overall, I didn’t feel very welcome and will be seeking care elsewhere.

What a wonderful veterinary clinic. The staff were caring and extremely pleasant, and the office and exam room were clean and comfortable. Dr. Singh and his staff were thorough and gentle with their examination, so I feel totally comfortable in saying that I would highly recommend Claws N Paws for the care of your little furry family members.

I have been taking my pets here on and off for some years now. With my current cat, the service here has been exceptional. The staff at the front desk is polite, and accomodating. You can feel that they care about the animals that come in. The doctor is amazing as well, bringing up points and concerns that I may not be aware of. They always give me options and never force me to purchase a service, as well as explaining all charges that will be due for each visit (no surprises). With my cat's most recent accident, they have been very attentive to his changes and needs, and they address all concerns during each visit. I also receive a follow up call, which means a lot.

Friendly staff, clean clinic, reasonable prices. I have taken my dog here since he was a puppy, so for 3 years now. Dr. Singh is very knowledgeable and he and his staff always do a great job. I have always gotten a reminder phone call from the clinic the day before my dog’s appointment, and one the day after just to follow-up on how he is feeling (i.e. post-vaccination). I will be moving soon, but if I ever move back to the area I would absolutely return here for all veterinary needs my dog has.

It started with scheduling the appointment. Kyra was absolutely amazing as she gave so much information to ensure all questions were answered. She was friendly, professional, and helpful. Now…..on to the actual appointment. The techs and the doctor were very kind. They made the experience a seamless one. They explained the process, as well as the plan moving forward, in a very easy-to-understand format. I am glad my son, Joshua, and I found them and will continue to take our new “family member” for his care. We definitely recommend!
