How to Save Money at VCA Northboro Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our family has had Labs since 1991. Having a vet practice that you can trust I feel is the most important tool in your toolbox for your animal.WOW VCA NORTHBORO Animal Hospital surely has fit the bill for us. Our current lab has a few health challenges. I just cannot tell you how much this team has wrapped themselves around her and our family. This team CARES, THEY CLARIFY , THEY RESPOND PROMPTLY, THEY ALWAYS GET YOU IN, THEY HAVE EXCELLENT DIAGNOSTIC SKILLS, THEY NEVER EVER RUSH YOU and THEY ACT WITH SUCH COMPASSION, THEY FOLLOW UP ON YOUR PET and THEY CHECK ON YOU EVEN WHEN THEY ARE NOT WORKING. It is quite evident from the way they treat the owner and the pet, that they provide EXCELLENT training for their staff. Our family is beyond blessed to have found this amazing team. We would highly reccomend this outstanding team.

Changing from four stars to five stars because Dr. Mark is amazing. She even took the time today to watch little home videos of our cats saying she loved seeing them in their home environments. She saw my husband's cat and loved on him so much giving him tons of compliments. She asked about my cat remembering her by name and said she loved both of our cats. She even loves my little evil kitty! Best vet ever. We totally trust her. Nice location and office. Dr. Mark is amazing! She's the "Cat Whisperer". My seriously evil cat has never attacked her and she doesn't have to use the gloves or sedate her. Literally the only vet that has ever been able to handle her.

Good Drs and clean and comfortable hospital. If you're used to a homey type animal hospital though, this isn't the place. It's pure corporate. We spent $137 at the 1st visit with our little hamster whoch was the office visit and 3 doses of a topical medication, and then exactly 2 weeks later, another $129 just to euthanize her. I KNOW it doesn't cost them $129 for the 5 mins it took for them to take her in back, euthanize her, and then give the body back to me to take home to bury. They wouldn't budge on the cost for it, which I thought was really crappie, considering the hamster belonged to a young college student who had adopted it when it was 2 years old already. My take is, they know what they're doing with your pets, but are pricey.

If u want a vet to care for your pet and really care, vs. just see the next repeat, then this is the place for you. I live 20 mins away and pass several vets, but this one is the best by far. Our cat Thor loves coming here, and that says a lot. He's a cat and hates everything except this place. The staff is very kind and the have a app to track everything if you do the care club. My cat won't let me go anywhere else but here. He loves this place. A must try if you need a vet. Even open on sundays.

Went there about a month ago for the very heavy heart my dog peanut who was with me for 15 years was getting very ill and old and it was on a Saturday and I could not bring him to my regular vet so I brought him to the Westbrook Animal Clinic the vet was very nice all the employees were very sympathetic to me having to put peanut down they told me that I could take as much time as I want after the vet came in and examined him . I would recommend anyone who would have to go there with any type of pet emergency or just to have a regular checkup. The girls at the desk were pure angels.A little time had passed and I got a envelope in the mail with a hand written note from the doctor and a sympathy card that brought a tear to my eye .Thank you so much for your kind words Love you all Rob Ciunci
