How to Save Money at Vista Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Since my dogs vets retired about a year ago, I was looking for a clinic and had no luck until I found Vista Vet Hospital. I found them through research on Google and decided to give it a try due to their highly recommended reviews, and I was not disappointed. Easy and convenient location. Super clean, and the girl at the front desk was so nice, helpful, and patient. Also, I watched her constantly cleaning the reception between patients. The people there are great. They're all at ease, which helps keep our pups at ease. They're professional. They took time to get to know my princess Luna and explain every detail to me to make sure I knew what was going on to her.b There was a chair in the exam room for me but none for the clinical team. When they come in, including Dr. Todd, they get down on the floor to meet their patients eye-to-eye on their level, and that was something that Ive never witnessed in any other vets and they won my heart right there. What a wonderful, lovely and gentle approach to my baby girl. There isn't even an exam table; it's hidden away like a Murphy bed. All of these things helped our pups stay calm throughout the entire visit. They took such a good care of Luna, and the medication that the doctor prescribed work and she's feeling much better. I finally found the place to have my pup become a regular patient. 🐶💛

I was visiting Cape Cod for the holidays when my dog got pretty sick. We called on Christmas Eve for an emergency appointment and they couldn’t have been more caring or understanding. They saw us swiftly and took excellent care of Dutchess. They had us wait for our blood results which came back normal and called a few days later to check on her. I highly recommend this practice as everyone is an animal lover and truly cares about the service they provide. Thanks !

I've heard nothing but good things about Vista Veterinary Hospital and I understand why; the care, service, and facility are the best I've experienced when it comes to the well being of my pets. The people there are great. They're all at ease which helps keep our pups at ease. They're professional. They take time to get to know your pets and to speak with you to ensure you know what's all going on. There are chairs in the exam room for us but none for the clinical team. When they come in, including Dr. Todd, they get down on the floor to meet their patients eye-to-eye on their level. There isn't even an exam table; it's hidden away like a Murphy bed. All of these things helped our pups stay calm throughout the entire visit. Today I was blown away by their service. We were faced with a shortage of meds and the team there went above and beyond my expectations...but it seems it's just 'what they do'. They have processed in place to resolve issues with east for folks in my situation. What they do is far greater than any other vet we've used. The clinic itself it the cleanest and most well maintained I've been in. I've seen a few clinics over the years so this says a lot. I'd go so far to say it looks as great as it did when they opened their doors two years. Would I recommend Vista Vet? Absolutely!

I do not recommend this vet. They charged me $1,000+ for an ultrasound, a cytology that did not produce any results bc the sample was too small, and various medications. I received a $300 refund for the cytology only after asking for it. In addition, Dr Kennedy was insulted that we wanted to get a 2nd opinion from a vet other than Dr Todd’s “friend” in Buzzard’s Bay, and rudely ended our call by hanging up on me without even asking how our pet was doing.

My GSD and I Visited Vista Vet Hospital this morning for a small (but potentially larger) emergency situation and the entire staff was amazing and nothing but helpful! From the minute we walked in, we were welcomed immediately and got the services we needed promptly from the doctor. We were not even current patients at this vet, but they helped out in a time of need and were absolutely fantastic.
