How to Save Money at Bellingham Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I would give it negative 10 stars because I hate how these vets mistreated my dog and other animals who were there. I dropped my fiancée off then went to the appointment and I wish I didn't go there since I first step foot in this joint. Prices are unreasonably high which means they're after your money and have no heart for animals. I LOST A LOT OF MONEY AND I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GO THERE AND IT'S MAKING ME ANGRY!! My dog is getting neutered on April 24th and it's about $800. That could of been cheaper but no this is the only animal hospital. The way they handled my new standard poodle was they pinned him so hard and I know it's uncomfortable but he had an ear infection just like my other dog which is the only thing I'm grateful for that they cured but not enough to make up for the abuse of other animals. I read all the bad reviews and I couldn't believe I went there. I saw a vet hit someone's dog and that's what's getting me riled up. No animal should go to this sorry excuse of a vet. After the appointment, the old gray hag told me to get a choke collar and I won't do that because its animal abuse. I SWEAR THE NEXT TIME I SEE HER AND IF SHE MENTIONS A CHOKE COLLAR ONE MORE TIME I'LL TELL HER HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU HAD ONE OF THOSE TIGHT COLLARS AROUND YOUR NECK AND IF SHE HAD ANY HEART SHE WOULD REIMBURSE ME SOME OF THE MONEY I PAID TO A REASONABLE AMOUNT BEFORE OR AFTER THIS PLACE IS SHUT DOWN AND HOPE IT'LL BE THE FIRST PLACE TO GO DURING A VOLCANIC ERUPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😡🌋

It’s a shame this place only has a two star rating. The staff and veterinarian that I deal with are awesome. Have 3 dogs that I bring and they take excellent care of them. If you are looking for a caring and compassionate place this is it. I have been coming here for 6 years.

I dont understand the bad reviews. Doctor Conley, Doctor Sandler, Colleen, Cynthia and Sean are wonderful. They do care so much about the animals. They worked so well with my cat and showed nothing less than care and compassion the whole time. Doctor Conley is an amazing doctor and surgeon. She did a fantastic job making sure my kitty did well with his surgery and proceeds to live a long, healthy life. Thank you, everyone here, for being so kind, gentle and loving to my kitty! Sincerely, Natasha + Ace 🐾

My sister brought her cat here after not eating for 2 days and the doctor very clearly needs to find a new profession. She ripped a thermometer out of the cats bottom and then when the cat cried and hissed she shoved the thermometer in the cats face still with feces on it and told the cat she could shove the thermometer in her mouth if she wanted to keep hissing. On top of the doctor clearly not caring about the pet, she was also so unkind to the assistants helping her including smacking their hands away and yelling at them/embarrassing them in front of clients and patience. If you love your pets, don’t bring them here, they will not love your pets and they will treat them with no respect. On top of it all, they weren’t able to provide any information on the cat and why it wasn’t eating and now won’t provide any other suggestions or assistance even though the cat is still not eating. Simply a terrible place.

1st Location Run down 2nd Very chaotic atmosphere co workers yelling at each other. 3rd The only thing this Vet is good is annual visits. 4th Pray that nothing medically serious happens with you pet. Because they don't listen or pay attention to the signs and symptoms presented to them. Because of their inability to diagnose my dog..he died. 5th No compassion or Sympathy threw my experience with them! I wish I read the reviews 5 yrs ago when I adopted my dog..If I had, the outcome may not have been the same.
