How to Save Money at Ark Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Awesome place. I'm in this area a lot now and needed to establish vet care for my three furkids. Staff is great. Dr G is very pleasant and she did thorough examination on my youngest dog. He has a possible ligament injury and she discussed several options on how to proceed now as well as what could happen in the future.

I have a Pitbull/American Bulldog who has had skin issues his entire life (7 years). It has been kept under control by buying excellent quality foods, treats, special shampoo's and watching what his bedding was washed in. Recently his skin has just been down right terrible. Nothing was helping. This vetrinarin was the 2nd I went to see after the first failed miserably after multiple visits to even touch the problem. After 3 visits here at the Ark his skin was even worse. While I understand that I'm not a vet; I do know my dog. I've had him for SEVEN years and he's quite literally my soulmate. Nothing I expressed was taken into consideration and she argued every point I had in a very condescending manner. I had to rush my dog to another vet in the middle of the night to find out that my dog has staph infection. Mrs. Gosik pushed that my dog be placed in an e-collar against my judgement and spoke to my husband as if he were stupid. I didn't want my dog in an e-collar because he drools and makes a disaster when drinking water. She pushed so I caved. Now, under my dogs jowels is extremely infected because of the e-collar. I even placed feminine pads in the collar to absorb the drool and mess and replaced them multiple times a day and it still didn't help. The antibiotic that he was placed on by Mrs. Gosik was also useless against the infection my boy has. It has only been 4 days since my trip to the emergency vet; my dog has improved drastically. I was listened to and my concerns were validated. While Mrs. Gosik has to be some people's cup of tea because she obviously has her own practice; she isn't mine. I was extremely disappointed in the way she handled my dog and my concerns for him. She even questioned my choice of heartworm prevention and was very rude and consistent about testing for heartworms. I allowed the test which came back negative. She didn't even offer the results I had to ask, at which point I was being condescending because I knew my dog was negative. If you are a true animal lover, your pets are the equivalent of your children, and YOU know your children. For my concerns and thoughts to be blatantly ignored was disheartening. I will not return.

Very good pet care. Dr. G. does follow-ups with animal patient by making phone calls, after hours, 1 and 2 days after visit. For me that shows a professional that provides good care for concerns of pet owner and pet.
