How to Save Money at The Animal Place Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

One of their vet techs, Lauren Wells, was making "jokes" with her husband about animal abuse all over the internet and then decided to claim it was a "joke" after Lauren doubled down about the abuse after being called out. She then said she sent all the screenshots to her boss, this vet, and that it was all good. Apparently they're not worried about animal care based on multiple reviews on Facebook, and animal abuse is funny to them. I hope you find a vet that doesn't think animal abuse is a joke and somewhere your baby will be treated with care and compassion. Joking about animal abuse isn't professional nor is it funny.

First time here. Maybe they where just busy.. wasn’t the most professional. They took my senior dog to the back to check her back tooth that was hanging .. then when they brought her back , they didn’t let me know she was even the Dr (I thought she was a tech) so, another tech come in while she was telling me my dogs tooth wasn’t loose (which was) she checked it with dogs teeth clinched. then (dr) left out suddenly…I started getting frustrated so I’m sure my attitude by this time wasn’t the best. (Which I apologize and did ) . So The estimated cost was given : Tooth extraction was going to be 15$ out of the 400.$ for the rest (blood work ,anesthesia etc. (which was fine ) but couldn’t tell me how many teeth needed to be taken out . Dr didn’t wanna do extraction today, she said maybe my dog can get it out if it was loose?? (It was..it was hanging but not enough for me to get out) also, I didnt even get a chance to ask other questions with the check up/emergency for her. The receptionist was amazing tho! they did give my dog meds so thank you !Which got all over me and my dog (which is ok ) but she wasn’t prepared with a paper towel even after the first meds splattered all over me and my dog, lol. Again I was frustrated so these small things by this point just made me even more upset. Thankful for the antibiotics and pain meds tho. I also was told In A round about kinda sassy way I basically should have kept up with her teeth , which was fair ..she is right. I should have . I try and do all I can with what money I have. I’ve tried.😭 I normally don’t post reviews but I thought maybe if I did they would understand that animal owners for the most part try our best and don’t have 100 of dollars at times and are worried for our babies. However I will do better. . My rat terrier is almost 14. Thank y’all for what y’all did do… just plz be more mindful and remember we come to y’all for our babies and don’t know things as y’all do.

We have been with The Animal Place for over 11 years, all of our animals have been cared for by them. Just took my cat Turtle in with an upper respiratory infection & he was better that evening. The staff a kind, gentle, genuinely care for your animals feelings & yours as well. The will not gouge you nor rip you off very reasonably priced and they ask if you approve of what they are about to do & tell you how much it will be before just incase you may not be able to afford it. Love them!
