How to Save Money at Vale Park Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m traumatized by what I just experienced here. Ive been a customer for years and never had a bad experience until now. Recently adopted a cat, brought him in for a well check and it turned out he was diabetic. Obviously I know nothing about caring for a diabetic pet but was willing to learn. I went in for a demonstration on how to do his injections and did exactly as the vet techs showed me. Thought I was good to go. 3 days later I found out they told me to give him 10 times the amount of insulin as I should have been giving. Of course he went hypoglycemic and we had to bring him to the emergency vet. They managed to save his life but unfortunately he is now blind and has to take anti seizure meds most likely for the rest of his life. When I spoke to them about what had happened, she basically accused me of lying about what happened at the demonstration. Either her two vet techs flat out lied or thought they were doing correctly. Either way it’s bad. 3200 dollars at the emergency vet, vale park gave me 1500.. and a now blind cat. Needless to say I will be searching for a new vet. Thankfully the emergency vet gave me all the knowledge I need going forward.

I love Vale Park. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. I have had a few issues with my dog and had to make a few appointments, and I have yet to run into a single person with a bad attitude. The last time I took her there she was limping really bad for over a week, so I was expecting a huge bill for X-rays and tests, but all they did was put my dog through a series of stretches and they came to the conclusion that she tore something in her shoulder. They put her on meds for it, and she is now completely healed, and I got out of there with a very cheap appointment. My dog is also a rescue that had heartworms, and they treated her for that, and she ate a bunch of Hershey kisses with the foil on, and they treated her for that. They love my dog, and everyone comes out from the back to see my pretty Penny Lane when she is there! I could not be happier with the treatment and the service we get from Vale Park!

Here is why I love Vale Park. I love Vale Park for the compassionate vet tech's, vet's, vet assistants, front desk, pharmacy, daycare and anyone else I missed. Every time I have taken my dogs there, they have been the absolute best. One time, my dog Ross was not feeling well at all and was shaking really bad so they immediately got a bandana with lavender (I think) on it to help him. Dr. Rock has seen both of my dogs since they were puppies. I recently moved and was at my wits end about my sick dog as my vet in my new state was too busy to give me a call back so I reached out to my tried and true vet here at Vale Park and of course, Dr. Rock called me and was able to help me even states away. I could not ask for a better Vet office and a better vet. Nothing makes me more nervous than when my dogs are sick and I can't get any answers or help.

Both our dogs have been going to Vale Park Animal hospital since they were puppies. We have been extremely impressed by the care that they have received over the years. Today, our dog (Lady) sliced her paw pad and I was unsure what to do so I called and spoke with the vet technician. They offered me an appointment same day, but I was unsure about what I should do. Lady's vet, Dr. Harsy, spoke to me over the phone and confirmed that Lady would be fine. She gave me some things to watch for, and I was so grateful for her help. Dr. Harsy is absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend her. Lady also loves her, which means a lot! Thank you Dr. Harsy for taking such good care of our pup.
