How to Save Money at Cornerstone Veterinary Services Inc

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I went here for years because I grew up using this vet. I never had any issues until they did OFA x rays of my dog. They were done completely wrong and I was told they were certified to do OFA x rays. The hip x rays were completely crooked and missing part of the pelvis which should have been shown, their BARE HANDS were in all three x rays. The elbows weren’t positioned right either. I posted on my personal fb feed looking for another OFA certified vet to do the same x rays on my other dog because I didn’t want more bad x rays. I never put the office down. But they send all my dog and cats information to the post office and I had to sign to get their vet work because I was BANNED for their bad x rays. The note stated I left ‘disparaging commentary’ on my fb about their vet office. I did not, I simply asked my fellow fb friends and dog enthusiasts for suggestions for a different vet to do the OFA x rays for my other dog. I’m literally banned from the premises because of their wrong doing. All they had to do was offer to either refund my money for the poorly done/incorrectly done x rays and/or offer to redo them correctly and within the guidelines they should have been done in. They’re cheap for a reason I guess. Also, they’re literally putting their staff at risk by allowing them to have bare hands in the x rays. They’re supposed to wear lead gloves. Bone/skin cancer anyone? I included the note they left me as well as the poorly done x rays.

Vet and staff must have been having a horrible day as they were all pretty rude and snappy. I brought my dog in because of a possible bowel obstruction. When I expressed concern that she hasn’t eaten in a week and was acting weird the Vet replied with “well how long does it take a dog to starve to death? More than one day” He didn’t even examine her and within 24 hours of that visit I had to take her somewhere else for surgery. Yea their prices are fair but it’s like the Dollar Tree of Vets, you’re gonna get what you pay for.

In May, my cat got spayed at Cornerstone. She was sent home the same day as the surgery, could barely move due to the anesthesia and location of incision, the anesthesia didn’t wear off the next day either, and her sutures were done very poorly. She had an infection just over 24 hours later. Her incision was done on her side rather than her stomach. Every time she walked, her incision opened a little more. Thanks to Bluffton Animal Clinic, they got her on an antibiotic, fixed her incision, and she’s had no issues since.

You need to look into the veterinarian who failed to SIMPLY neuter a dog. This is a procedure that is done daily by professionals with ZERO concerns. There is NO REASON as to why this veterinarian FAILED to do a simple procedure. This veterinarian NEEDS to be held accountable for their cruelty towards the poor dog that THEY FAILED to care for. This veterinarian is a HUGE LIABILITY to your facility. If nothing is done, reports will be made to state to make sure something is done. There is absolutely NO reason why a simple procedure should have gone so bad. If you are the veterinarian who did this and happens to be reading this review, YOU NEED to look into a different career. Covering up your mistakes won’t stay hidden for long. Reconsider now before your mistakes catch up to you. You’re clearly in this for the wrong reasons if you would let this happen.

Dr Biehl and his entire staff are amazing! I recently had to take Bailey in to see Dr Biehl because he wasn't acting right. De Biehl was able to diagnosis the issue. It was liver cancer. Dr Biehl was there for us step by step until we finally had to say good bye to Bailey. We still take our other dog to see Dr Biehl. They are very reasonable in prices. And they have very flexible hours. I highly recommend Cornerstone Veterinary Services.
