How to Save Money at City Way Animal Clinics - Mass Ave
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Office was able to fit us in a last minute appointment due to issue. The Mass Ave location was very friendly, accommodating & professional. Dr. Alex Bednar was new to us, but we loved him! Dr. Alex was very patient, informative & communicative about my pet’s issue. He also took his time & did not seem rushed at all. Given the anxiety my pet & I had coming into the office, your staff did everything possible to make us comfortable. Thank you!! 🖤 Alf & his Mom

A litter of 7-week-old strays I’ve been caring for recently came down with parvo. I brought them to City Way Mass Ave today, and I can honestly say it was the best vet experience I’ve ever had, on what was also one of the hardest days I’ve ever had as a pet parent. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁. The staff was kind and incredibly patient with the chaos of an entire litter. They took the time to walk me through how to handle the at-home care and made it clear they genuinely cared about my animals. I wish I could remember everyone’s names to thank them properly, but I was so stressed out by our situation I can’t remember them 😩. To the three women and the vet who helped us today, you were amazing, and I appreciate you more than I can say. I truly can’t recommend this place enough.

A great experience, the vet tech and the nurses were so sweet. I started busting out crying for absolutely no reason on my visit yesterday. Just for the fact that I saw my cat wasn't feeling well and was stressed ( i just felt bad for my cat) and everyone was so sweet to me about it and gave me regular updates during his visit, so I wouldn't freak out more. I was so embarrassed for crying lol, but I appreciate everyone for being so kind about it! Beni feels great today and stopped ignoring me, so I know he's not mad at me for taking him to the vet anymore! PHEWWWWW! THANK YOU CITY WAY- MASS AVE

Amazing and caring vet techs and vets. I lost a beloved cat this past May and they were who took care of him (and us) before he passed and after. They’ve helped bring down costs when they can and helped emotionally many times when I’ve been in distress over my kitty being in pain. Great place and always clean :)

Our cat became very congested and was breathing weird - and of course, on a weekend, when our vet was closed. A friend recommended City Way Animal Clinic and we had a great experience! The clinic looks brand new - such a clean, inviting environment. The staff was kind and welcoming and the vet spent a lot of time understanding our cat's history and answering all of our questions. They were very clear and upfront with the costs. We came up with a treatment plan that addressed his issues and eased our concerns. We left with a clear idea of signs to watch for and follow up steps. The overall cost was much cheaper than previous animal care/hospitals we've used. I grabbed a business card when we left - we would absolutely bring any of our pets back and we will refer all of our friends! Great experience!
