How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Western Illinois Veterinary Clinic
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Dr Tessa gave compassionate and tender care for our family's Millie. She was very gentle with her physical exam and helped diagnose several compressed discs. Encouraged us to hold off on making final farewells just yet, until we give the meds time to work. I thought for sure we were going to have her put down today.

I have been bringing my many animals to Western for 20 years. I like to tell people that they are practical vets. If your cat presents with a scab and a fever, they treat them for an abscess without $400 in tests. Each and every person I have dealt with, from the front desks to the techs to the vets, has been caring and compassionate. I have recommended this practice to hundreds of people over the years.

My Doberman - who is a patient here - broke a nail today, and he was in pain and bleeding. Walked into the clinic hoping to get some help with this - was told that they “try not to do walk-ins”, and they recommended we go across town to another clinic that is “better at fitting patients in”. What kind of clinic recommends its patients go somewhere else for basic care? As a physician, I have personally seen many walk-ins in my own clinic, and I find it quite disappointing that these physicians do not value doing the same for their patients. We will be transferring our care elsewhere.
