How to Save Money at Bridgeview Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Update 4-26-23....just called them regarding a cancellation charge I received in the mail. The girl on the phone said because we chose not to wait for an unspecified amount of time after they took on an emergency we cancelled the appointment which causes them to loose out. I said we completely understand emergencies happen but you can't expect people to wait indefinitely without offering to reschedule the appointment when you took on that emergency. She tried to claim that my husband just took off when told he had to wait indefinitely or pay a cancellation fee. I told her that I know for a fact that no rescheduling was offered as the conversation was recorded (in an outdoor setting). I could then hear Sprayer in the background telling the girl to hang up. I did try to call back but if course no answer. ORIGINAL POST....First I was told Wednesday when they called at 1:37pm to confirm my appointment that they were no longer doing curbside. That turned out to be a lie. Our appointment was scheduled for 3:30 and at about 4 they said they were no longer going to be able to see us due to an emergency and tried to charge us a CANCELLATION FEE. They tried to have my husband sign paperwork to have everything sent to another vet on top of cancelling. They also tried to hold him hostage until he paid said cancellation fee.

My husband came in with our dog for his annual appointment and ended up sitting in their parking lot for 2 hours. He called in after a bit to make sure they didnt forget about him, watched another patient cone and go, and then they came out for our dog. The same thing happened a few months ago when I came in with one of my family members for their dog. Thought I should forewarn people of the potential wait especially since in the summer it means you and your pet have to sit in a hot car for a long time! I have worked in a vet clinic before so I know sometimes things get hectic, especially with just 1 vet, but if they knew they were running almost 2 hours behind on appointments, a call would have been nice.

Amazing experience! Very caring and professional, and they take their time with explanations and options. Prices are reasonable. I also boarded my cat after surgery and she was well cared for...got lots of attention...they sent text photos and got her to eat. When she came home and I had an emergency after hours, I received a prompt callback with instructions and she was tended to immediately. I take all my animals to them. I will never go to another place. My pets deserve the best and I have found it.

Thanks to Allison and all of the girls at Bridgeview, my fur baby has a second chance at life. We took him to Ancare because he was sick and they recommended we put him down so we made an appointment with Allison and she got to the bottom of things and did what needed to be done and he is now home with us and on the road to recovery. He will never see another vet. She fought for our boy and we owe her the world!!

We’ve taken our current and past dogs to The owner one at the new location one at her old location. She was amazing to us very kind and compassionate. She made a house call when our dog was attacked by another was there for us when we put him down and saw us through our next and continues to! I would 10/10 recommend!
