How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Outstanding service and support for our German Shepherd Dog. We called, checked in online, and in an exam room in 45 minutes. The staff and Dr. Chan were fantastic. It was a little more expensive for the visit, $190 compared to $140 at two other emergency Vet locations. It seemed worth it because they were on top of everything and refunded for services not needed. We did have to authorize full payment for the estimated services. Be prepared for that. It was a little over $1100.00 for the services that included x-rays, ultrasound, blood work, triage, medicine, and fluid administration. They were all great. Made us and our dog feel very calm. We had more confidence in Dr. Chan than our regular Vet. Great overall service and support.

1000% recommend. I had to bring my dog in for excessive dark diarrhea & vomiting. I loved the setup of the open main area and then kennels and rooms along the edge. Very pleasant staff, nice to be around and personable. Vet explained testing and assessment appropriately. They encouraged me to assist with holding my dog as I felt comfortable to. I’ve only needed an ER vet twice in 11 years - I’m so thankful they are there. Absolutely recommend.

Exceptional care from check in to check out. I am extremely pleased with this facility. The front desk was so professional, kind, and efficient, we were greeted immediately even though she was dealing with another client. Being a Registered Nurse myself, I can definitely tell you this Doctor had beautiful beside manners, she didn’t seem rushed, and she asked if we understood everything. The nurses were amazing, keeping us informed about everything going on, they explained step by step what they were doing to our baby, and all the staff treated our baby with such gentle care. It was super clean, and they have tons of parking. I can go on and on about how good they were, obviously I hope I never have to come back but if I have to, I know my baby will be well cared for.

Can’t say enough positive things about our experience! Every staff member we interacted with was above and beyond friendly and knowledgeable, and I felt that they really took their time and gave our kitty a thorough exam. It was a scary couple of hours prior to our visit, but our sweet girl is already on the mend! Thank you so much! (Pictured below: window watching for the first time in two days with her brother who got her sick. ❤️)

100% best place I’ve had to go to! We are from a rural area and had to drive over an hour to get to them but they were ready and prepared for us the staff was so kind, gentle, and attentive to my 5 month old German Shepard! 10/10 on their care. Wouldn’t recommend anyone but them I’m very particular on my vets and these ladies by far took the best care of my little girl. The best part of the situation was that we were a part of her care the whole time except for the few minutes to take the X-ray and even then we could see here through the door and was waiting just on the other side. When she was done with her X-ray she was given right back to us and we spent the rest of the time with her! This is a 5 star vet without a doubt! If you need a good ER vet come here! Don’t think twice make the extra 10 min drive and get here they took the best care of my girl
