How to Save Money at VCA Boulder Terrace Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog was choking on a piece of bone and having trouble breathing. VCA Boulder Terrace was the closest animal hospital we could find so we called to see if we could rush our dog over. I called first to see what we needed to do and the lady who answered said “Here’s what you need to do. Call over to the VCA Aurora because we close in 30 min and they are open”. I honestly thought the person was going to give me advice or express concern but cared more about their closing time than the life of an animal. VCA Boulder terrace is 2 minutes from our house and the Aurora location is close to 30 min away. I hung up the phone in disgust and called another hospital that was able to save our dog. If you care about your pets, this is not the place to go to. Hopefully they start hiring people that have compassion and care.

First time visit with our recently adopted sassy cat. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful. Very easy to make an appointment online. The calming blanket was something our prior vet never even mentioned. This was the most amazing magical thing! We had an initial exam and a nail trim. Pricing was good, especially since we had the $20 coupon. The lady behind the front desk, the vet tech and the vet were all fabulous. Will definitely continue to bring our fur baby here for all future needs and check ups. Had been going to another local vet for 20 years. I was nervous about switching vets, but am sooooo happy that I did!

Dr. Hailer at Boulder Terrace has been taking care of the pets in my family for 20+ years. Her compassion in every circumstance has been invaluable. All of the staff have always been extremely kind, communicative, and helpful.

I was very displeased with the service I had from this animal hospital. I found out last week that my loving dog has a tumor on her spleen and since I was leaving the country in a few days I asked if they could conduct the ultrasound in the coming week. I was thrilled to get an appointment 6 days later but called yesterday only to find out that they made a "Mistake" and my appointment needed to first be a comprehensive exam since she wasn't a regular patient of theirs. Since I didn't have enough time to do this and get the ultrasound before my trip I had to cancel. The receptionist wouldn't let me talk to the vet or office manager to explain my situation. Now my 24 year old son has to take 1/2 day off of work to take the dog to another vet who is not requiring a comprehensive exam first. Saying my prayers that they don't deliver bad news to him while I'm not in town to console him and his young sister!

The vets and staff truly care about my animals and me. I’ve had a very sick kitten that was given very good care by all the techs, staff, and vets throughout multiple visits. They listen to all of my concerns and address all of my questions. I travel a bit farther to use this vet but it has been more than worth it. I also appreciate how nice the staff are to me. I’ve been to multiple vets in the past that like the animals but aren’t as friendly to their human counterparts. This veterinary hospital treats my animals and me with care and genuine hospitality.
