How to Save Money at GoodVets Naperville

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to take my dog into see Dr. Edmondson for his rabies shot and to check some masses on his elbow and shoulder. She is so knowledgeable in the health of Chinese Shar Peis she also listens to the owners when explaining concerns. I think she’s wonderful and definitely i would suggest her to any other Shar pei owner or any other breed. I live 2 hours away but i will always make that trip. I just wish my Wrinkles wasn’t so afraid of vets due to another vets harsh treatment at another facility. Wrinkles has to be given a light sedation for examination.Good Vets is located in a mall but there is plenty of parking.

Very satisfied with the service overall. Meds were available onsite, affordable price and the vet and staff were very kind, professional and very soothing to my dog. The treatment was effective and immediate. They are now my dog's lifetime vet.

I was very impressed by the friendly staff here. They were very thorough during the exam and handled my kitten very gently. I didn’t feel rushed either, they took their time with us. We will be customers here from now on!

Dr. Edmonson and staff were so nice and helpful. Definitely would recommend to family and friends. The design of the clinic is so beautiful, feels like I'm taking my pet to a spa.

I have tried patiently to resolve my concerns over email with the practice but they will not respond. I tried to respond to their automated customer survey and it would not allow me to submit my response. I wrote to their corporate team and no one responded. My hope was that they might internalize the feedback, resolve the issues and demonstrate that they were in fact better than my initial negative impressions, but instead the experience just got worse as I tried to resolve it with them directly. I use Google reviews to get an overall feel for service providers; choosing a vet for your pets is really important and based on my experience, I want other people to know that there are much better choices than GoodVets Naperville. My experience in a nutshell - I scheduled an appointment over the phone to bring my two cats in for their rabies shots. The person who attended me over the phone was brusque to the point of rude. I should’ve trusted my gut at that point that she was probably representative of what the overall experience would be but I thought well maybe she’s just busy. When I got there, there was absolutely nobody in the practice not a single other client or animal, they put me in a room with my two cats and made me wait for about 10 minutes, during which time I heard them talking in the hallway about the cats names. Finally, a vet tech comes into the room. I’m holding my most skittish cat and the tech stays well on the other side of the room, acts like the cats have a communicable disease, attempts to say their names without asking what the pronunciation is (totally butchers them), makes me put the cat on the scale to be weighed, tells me it’s too early to get their rabies shot and then leaves the room. The vet comes in a minute later, listens to the cats hearts, looks at their teeth and then she’s on her merry way. Overall, between the tech and the vet, they spent six minutes with the cats. The bill when I go to check out - $150. I leave stunned, feeling ripped off and completely disillusioned that we have to go through the whole rigamarole of trying to get skittish cats back to the vet again in a few months and wondering why the person that I scheduled the appointment with couldn’t have helped me on the front end to avoid this issue. So I send an email as soon as I get home sharing my concerns with the practice manager. I don’t hear back for two days so I send another email. Finally, I hear back, but Instead of trying to relate to my experience or resolve my concerns, she argues with me & tells me that I scheduled my appointment online. I respond back, tell her this isn’t true - I attempted to schedule the appointment online, but it wouldn’t let me schedule so I scheduled it over the phone; I reiterate my concerns. Around the same time, I get an automated email requesting that I fill out a survey. I attempt multiple times to submit the survey, but I get an error message. Since I’m not getting any response from the practice manager showing any intent to resolve my concerns, I do a little bit more digging and find out that GoodVets is owned by private equity. I send an email to the GoodVets corporate email mailbox forwarding them my concerns and my interaction with the Naperville team. That was more than 72 hours ago, still no response. There is something very, very wrong with this business and the people who work there.
