How to Save Money at Healthy Pets Animal Hospital and Rehabilitation Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my very tiny, 4oz, lifeless foster kitten in to see Dr Jenner this week. Her technicians - Brittany & Haley gave her oxygen & heat support and Haley was able to place a lifesaving IV catheter in her nearly non-existent vein to give dextrose fluids. Dr. Jenner and her team saved Abby and she was able to go home on heat support & a high calorie diet. She is doing better after a couple days of monitoring & treatment. THANK YOU for treating Abby like one of your own! ❤️

I have had wonderful care at Healthy Pets Animal Hospital. Brittany the vet tech is caring and compassionate provider. Recently had one of my cats in for a tumor removal. Brittany closely reviewed my discharge instructions along with what to expect after pain medications had been given. I consider Dr. Jenner, Brittany, Hailey, Kara and Jessica an extension of my family. They have helped me get through many hard times with all of my animals. So fortunate to have a reliable team to care for my animals

Great first in-person experience taking our dog here for emergency situations and regular check-up. However, over the phone communications, customer service and explanations left something to be desired. Plenty of options in the area and encourage you to continue searching. We recently moved and after only ~4 months from our last exam were trying to get a prescription that our dog previously received from this center and has taken for over 3 years refilled. This has never been an issue previously. Instead of completing it this time, we were told that we would need to travel to complete another (costly) exam of the dog to have the prescription refilled. We genuinely hoped to keep this veterinarian and continue getting our dog's routine care completed through them when in the area to see family. Unfortunately, after this experience, we do not plan to have our dog examined 3 times a year & will find another veterinarian.

I have brought my dog here ever since he was misdiagnosed and overmedicated at his old vet, leading to medically induced Cushings. Dr. Jenner was very helpful in getting my dog back to a healthy weight and getting the Cushings reversed. I thought I would be going to this vet for all my animals, now and in the future. But, after today, I will never be going back. My 5 1/2 yr old dog, unfortunately, got a brain tumor. And after 9 months of watching my dog's health deteriorate, my family made the difficult decision to put him down today. The vet tech, Brittany, made an already traumatizing day even worse with her lack of empathy and disregard for our feelings. We ended up leaving with our dog and will not be going back. She is a horrific human being who should never be allowed access to pet parents and animals.

Incredibly professional, courteous, honest, and compassionate. We had to have our dog put down there, but our experience through it all was outstanding. The clinic also sent us a sympathy card and made a donation to an animal research group in our dog’s name.
