How to Save Money at Animal Care Clinic Of Chillicothe, P.C.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Carol is amazing. She had my cat for 3 days due to a urinary blockage. I called after hours on a Sunday and they met me at the clinic. Her and her husband both took exceptional care of my baby. He is my child and they know it. They show love, respect, empathy, and they value your animal as if it were their own. There aren’t loops, schemes, or anything of the sort in her place of business. They are there for you and your pet! Giving you the best treatment plans and affordable pricing! Here you don’t just get what you pay for, you get more! Put your pets care in her hands. They’ve got you and your pets best interest at heart. I will be back with both of my boys for regular visits ❤️

After my family going to this vet for all of our animals for 11 years, including foster cats, and spending probably over tens of thousands of dollars at this clinic, she dropped us as clients. We had been seeing other vets recently who have more diagnostic tools that a small town vet simply can't have, or vets that my family has been using for decades for some illnesses or issues that have been ongoing with our pets. Apparently, she doesn't like second opinions and when I called, she said "Clearly you don't want us treating your pets" and "I'd reccomend you go back to limestone" for a rabies vaccination. That clinic is in Bartonville, and we live in Chillicothe. The funny thing is that if we were consistently visiting one vet she would have never noticed or cared, but since we asked for paperwork to be transferred over to multiple, she got upset. She is only one doctor, so we couldn't get second opinions within the clinic, hence why we often visited other vets. The issue I've been having with my dog (Ace) has been ongoing for several years, so she had been given plenty of chances for a first opinion on this illness that keeps coming back. Though we hadn't seen her in a while, she had examined this issue with him before. Anybody who has gone to Dr. Kluka knows that as long as a payment gets collected, she will not have a single complaint to make. If one of us forgot a card, we would always pay at a follow up visit and we never received a single upset remark. If she had a problem with this, she could have absolutely told us, but she didn't. The problem is that often we go long stretches without appointments, but again we were never told this was a problem. Anytime we forgot a card, the staff would say something along the lines of "don't worry about it just bring it in next time", and we always did that. When she did recently finally give us a call about one payment, nobody was upset, the payment was given, and the late fee was paid without complaint. We did have some issues with no shows, but given that both of my parents are disabled and have trouble with transportation, you'd think she would understand, and on the surface she did. Again, we never got a single complaint about this until the day she decided to drop us. 11 No shows implies 1 no show a year, and we do try our best to avoid them but life happens. We still visited animal care clinic by far the most, but will not be any longer. We'll be switching over to chilli vet.

Love, love, LOVE Dr Carol. She is wonderful with our little Bailey! Everyone in her office is super great! She is the most reasonable vet I've seen, and if she has sample medication she shares! Cheryl Farwell-Duckworth

I have to give a shout out to this clinic.. we just began going here as we moved back to the area. My dog sliced her foot open and I called and they worked me in as fast as they could. I know it was their lunch time and they didn’t even hesitate giving that up to work my baby Im for emergency surgery. They had the best attitude and I know they did all they could for me with the cost of it. Highly recommend and this is why I love supporting these small hometown vets. They actually care! Thank you thank you thank you!

Carol and her staff are literally the best. We have been going there since moving to Chillicothe. The pricing is just right for us to get our fur kids the care they need without going broke. They always are happy and eager to see our babies. We have three dogs and she is very knowledgeable about each breed and tells us what’s best for them but also keeps in mind finances. When our shepherd tore off his paw pad, she worked him in right away and even gave us her cell number in case we needed her after hours. Love all of the staff
