How to Save Money at Ivy Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Ivy Vet came highly recommended when I needed a new vet for my anxious pup. The moment we walked through the door, we were welcomed with warmth. The staff is so sweet and welcoming. The environment was calming from start to finish. We didn't wait long at all and our appointment was not rushed at all (one of the reasons I left our previous vet.) Dr. Lee is kind and patient as my dog is anxious and nervous. He was gentle with her and tried to make her as comfortable as possible. He didn't force vaccinations that utterly necessary. Ivy Vet understands that vet visits can be stressful, so they make the visit as easy as possible. I was pleasantly surprised by the pricing as well - even with a full vaccinations update - which is always a bonus! I highly recommend Dr. Lee and Ivy Vet. Fair prices, a calm environment, and a friendly and patient staff - I'm so glad we found Ivy Vet!

The Juarez family would like to give Dr. Lee and the entire Ivy Veterinary Care team a perfect 10/10! They are the best in Chicago. From the moment you walk into the clinic, you’re greeted with warmth and a genuine, welcoming smile. The space is always immaculate, beautiful, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The exam rooms are comfortable, and calming for both pets and humans. Our four-legged babies Percy and Puss are consistently treated with kindness, patience, and love. As if they were the staff’s own pets. Dr. Lee is exceptionally knowledgeable and always takes the time to explain everything clearly. His compassion and dedication make you feel like family. We are incredibly grateful and blessed to have found Dr. Lee and his wonderful team. They are all truly amazing people. Thank you Dr. Lee and team there are not words that can describe how grateful we are.🥰🫶🏻💕🙏

I genuinely cannot say enough good things about our experience. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed into a beautiful, clean, and calming facility. The entire staff is incredibly kind, patient, and compassionate — you can truly feel how much they care about the animals they treat. Dr. Lee is phenomenal. After feeling uncertain with our previous vet, he took our concerns about our dogs’ lumps seriously and approached everything with care and thoroughness. He answered every single one of our questions in detail, never made us feel rushed, and explained everything clearly so we felt confident and informed. The turnaround time has been impressively fast, and they are always responsive when we need clarification or follow-up. It gives us so much peace of mind knowing our fur baby is in such capable and caring hands. We are so grateful we made the switch. Highly recommend Ivy Veterinary to anyone looking for a vet who truly listens and cares.

Dr. Lee is by far the kindest and thorough Vets I have run across in all my years owning dogs. He explains what is needed. Follows up when he says he will and keeps you informed on all process and results. The Vet techs at Ivy are truly caring, personable and compassionate. They are a team that goes above and beyond in all they do. I also recently learned they remember your dogs in and out of office. My dogs and I were walking and bumped into them out of their office one night. They immediately saw my dogs and recoginized them and called them by name. That truly stood out as a team that knows their patients and treats them like one of their own and Finn and Eevee love them so much. They genuinely care about your pets. Your not a number or a payment. The fees are lower than other vets I have worked with with an abundantly higher level of care. The office is gorgeous, welcoming and clean as a whistle. Everyone at Ivy makes you feel like you're home. From a recent surgical need to annual check ups and shots, my experience has been nothing short of top-notch.

Lark and I had our very first visit with Dr Lee at Ivy Veterinary last week. Lark and I are both seniors and are so pleased to have Dr Lee and his efficient friendly staff so close by that we can walk to the office. This visit was for Lark's annual check-up where she received a thorough exam, had her vaccines updated, heart worm test and parasite test. Dr Lee, and his assistant Arlene were both so friendly and caring while examining Lark. Test results were reported back the next business day. I am delighted that Ivy Veterinary is not a corporate business and that Dr Lee is the sole owner of this office. I was relieved that Dr Lee did not encourage me to buy into any extraordinary or unnecessary vet services for Lark which had been my experience in the past. If you are a pet owner living in the Irving Park area Lark & I highly recommend Ivy Veterinary. You will not be disappointed and it's important that we support our local small businesses!
