How to Save Money at Healing Tails Chicago Pet Rehabilitation and Acupuncture

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve had a wonderful experience at Healing Tails! The whole team is kind, caring, and attentive. The clinic feels very personal and individualized, and the environment is calm and welcoming. My dog (15 y/o) has multiple disc issues that caused weakness and knuckling in her back legs. Since starting acupuncture, laser therapy, and physical therapy with Dr. Arielle and Alexis, her strength has significantly improved, her legs have regained muscle tone, and she even has bursts of running when she’s excited. Dr. Arielle is thorough and thoughtful, creating highly individualized treatment plans. For my dog, she not only developed a plan within the clinic but also provided outside referrals and supplement recommendations that have been extremely helpful. Alexis, my dog’s physical therapist, is personable, knowledgeable, and attentive to detail. She notices small changes and tailors each session to meet my dog’s needs that day. She’s also warm, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. Alix at the front desk is also very friendly, organized, and makes scheduling simple. Overall, Healing Tails has been wonderful because of the personalized care, intimate setting, genuine team members, and holistic approach. We’re so grateful to have found them!

We absolutely love Dr. Ariel. Both of our dogs see her for physical therapy, and the difference has been incredible. Our older girl, Peggy, is 13 years old, and she’s been feeling better and staying mobile thanks to Dr. Ariel’s care. You can really tell she’s more comfortable day-to-day. Our younger dog, Mochi, has joint problems, and every time he sees Dr. Ariel he comes out moving easier and feeling better. She is patient, compassionate, and truly skilled at what she does. We are so grateful to have found her. We highly recommend to anyone whose pet needs support with mobility or pain.

Highly recommend Healing Tails! My pup went through 2 ACL surgeries in 3 months and would not have healed so well without the team. Alexis was wonderful and had so much patience with my dog who is very timid. From start to finish the Healing Tails team does everything to make you and your pup have a successful PT journey.

Estrella’s journey at Healing Tails has been amazing! She started in January 2025 and I’ve seen a huge difference in her. She has arthritis in her left shoulder and Alexis has helped her gain strength and mobility throughout her whole body not just her leg. Estrella started off not being able to do play valves or backwards walking without dragging her butt and back legs and now she’s able to to perform them without any problem. Alexis created a care plan for Estrella which involves at-home exercises that has helped my dog gain strength and improve her flexibility. Alexis will always address any concern I might have about any of the exercises. She’s very knowledgeable in her work. She shows how much she cares for my dog and for the work she does. This location is an hour drive for me but it’s worth traveling the long distance!

We truly can’t speak highly enough about Healing Tails Chicago. We drive nearly two hours each way and it has been worth every single mile. We originally brought Lark (9yr Lab/Bouvier mix) for mobility issues because they were one of the VERY few places we found that had both real veterinary backgrounds AND full rehab. Including underwater treadmill, which is very difficult to find. We brought our other pup Sputnik (10yr Husky) along because of the long commute, and during the very detailed and thorough initial consultation we actually discovered he was in even more discomfort than Lark. From there, it has been an incredible journey. The moment that locked it in for us forever during our first consult, Dr. Arielle said their goal is that our pups live to 30. That single line was exactly the energy and mindset we were hoping to find. We knew right then we were in the right place. We did full PT, water treadmill, acupuncture, and laser therapy for both of them. Lark is noticeably looser, more playful, and not as stiff but the biggest change has been Sputnik. He went from losing his zoomies, shorter walks… to a total monster again in the best way possible. He’s running around the yard, zooming in the house, acting like a puppy again. He is even fully off Carprofen now, just on supplements. Seeing him get that spark back has been huge for us. The entire staff is wonderful, warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested. They’ve been extremely accommodating through our two months of consistent appointments, and now both dogs are finishing PT and moving into maintenance. We’re so grateful for this team they didn’t just treat our dogs, they gave us our kids back in full puppy mode. Highly, highly recommend.
