How to Save Money at GoodVets Roscoe Village

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to get a tire changed nearby yesterday, one of our two buddies has conjunctivitis so we decided to walk over to get it looked at and they were super nice to her. They normally go to North Ave. She's deaf and kinda confused by strangers touching her and they didn't have to pull her in back they were just really patient. They gave us an evaluation of cost before going on to do any work on her to see how we felt about it. We were kind of shocked to see prices before they did anything!!! (In a good way) It's very nice before getting hit by a big bill. I really liked it and we will probably start bringing both dogs here. It's also really clean and cute and welcoming. We feel really tense at the other vet and thought that's just how the vet is supposed to be? Lol. Thank you!!! She was able to sleep good after the eye drops. (The picture is from home afterwards)

You've found the best, no reason to go anywhere else. Great, caring and friendly staff. Excellent vet who took her time with us and made sure we left feeling informed and reassured plus she did not try to sell us unnecessary tests. Add to that, the office is lovely and clean, with ample free parking. We live in the Loop, this is our new go to vet! Thank you!

Was my first time bringing my good boy Wisky. Jamie on the desk was friendly and helpful to set me up. My husky was dealing with some symptoms of kettle cough. Needed guidance and certainty from a vet. Not only were they extremely helpful but genuine and caring with my dog. Dr. Post and Halle were amazing and explained and helped me understand what was going on and what to do from there. I truly recommend this place just on the care and attentiveness on their part.

It doesn’t bring me pleasure to leave this review, especially because I have had decent experiences with GoodVets; however, the experience I’ve had with them this year was just too bad and traumatizing. I brought my cat to see Dr. Ford in January or February of this year with complaints of her ear bothering her. He took a blood test and *EMAILED* us with the results, saying she appeared to have large-cell lymphoma. First, I would have appreciated a phone call for such sad & traumatic results. Second, we took our cat to a vet oncologist and spent thousands of dollars in tests and blood work, only to finally get her in to see a vet dermatologist and were told she had a severe ear infection, with a pool of pus in her right ear. This was 4-5 months AFTER we took her to the vet for ear issues, so I’m confused as to why Dr. Ford didn’t notice she had an ear infection? Anyways, we continued taking her to the oncologist where we were essentially told that sometimes the labs “overinterpret cytology results” and that she essentially was not displaying any signs of having large-cell lymphoma. This entire year has been devastating, both psychologically and financially, as I thought I was losing my very beloved cat to lymphoma within a matter of months. Fast forward to this summer, I took our other cat to GoodVets (against my better judgement) because he had trouble pooping. They quoted me $1,000 for treatment, to which I had to tell them I couldn’t afford that, especially after all the vet bills for our other cat that we’ve had over the past 6 months. This place has not only dumbfounded me with their lack of professionalism and care, but it’s also quite obvious that they want to suck every last penny out of their clients who are just trying to get adequate veterinary care for their pets. Dr. De La Sierra is nice, but I couldn’t recommend this practice to anyone.

Tbh the best Good Vets location. I come all the way from my neighborhood in Pilsen to Roscoe Village just because I trust the staff and vets better here. They have such a strong relationship with their patients and a good sense of community. I have never seen a vet display cards and letters from pet owners to honor their furry loved ones who have passed. Legit tried to hold back tears reading them all.
