How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Banfield Pet Hospital
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian
Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.
Experience
Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.
Facility Tour
If available, touring the clinic can help you and your pet feel more comfortable before the first visit.

A bit of scheduling issues for office visit versus drop off visit, but the drop off visit ended up being convenient for us and we were still seen by a vet tech. The offered solutions without pushing extra products and treatments. The vet was very kind and helpful when she called. Also fast and flexible with medication pick up.

My 3 year old French bulldog went in for a teeth cleaning, when I picked him up he was in terrible pain panting non stop thru the entire evening the next morning he could no longer walk!!!! It’s been 3 years and he still cannot walk! Banfield said they believe it was a pre existing condition! I think he was dropped which may have caused spinal injury. I was told there are not cameras in any room “So I Guess We’ll Never No”! They charged me the next day for pain meds and told me to go to an emergency vet. The day I brought him in the vet on duty was in charge of 32 pets????? I had to fight with them to cancel my pet plan after being with them for over 11 years with previous pets! They have never reached out in any way! $11,000 later he still does not walk does not have IDVV and is in diapers!!!! Stay as far away as possible!!!!

My dog had liver problem but every time Dr. never noticed or mention me about this that I paid for the plan and blood work. They always say oh ya! your dog is fine kidneys disease is fine everything is good until I went to another location that I found out my dog’s liver is high. Then today I really upset because Dr.Powell called and talked to me about my dog health and ready to go home. When I get there I have been waiting like 45 minutes. After I got my dog I just have only one question that the staff just ask the Dr. but they both has gone for 15-20 minutes then I left. Then Dr.Powell called me to let me know that I know about my dog health and Dr. kind like rush, she talk to me really fast, no listen any question and hang me up literally fast. Like she does not care. I knew you are pretty busy. I knew you have another dog to take care but you guys even technician did not solve my question for this time. I pay for the plan and I paid for extra cost. I did not get everything free and this is my pet health and my pet life. Honestly Dr. Miller is the best for me! Update!!! My dog passed away. Because she had cancer. Everyone take their pet to the vet for check up their health even my dog too. My dog was collapse so many time. On August I took her to specialist at blue-pearl where she had record about heart murmur and doctor over there said her heart was stable her lungs still clear. Then next day I came to banfield and met dr.Wilson, I have no idea how she checked up my dog. She always said my dog looked good even though when she did blood work and my dog had liver so high she still said my dog was ok. I talked with dr.Wilson and she said she did not had any idea what was going on with my dog just only heart murmur to be the reason of my dog health. Nobody never recommended me to do anything. No guideline to x-ray or whatever. Everyone comes to see doctor that means they need recommendation, guideline, and adviser for everything for their love. I think Dr. Wilson and another dr. here are truly have not knowledge about the pet. I felt they are not emphasize about our pet. Please take your love to the other clinic or other pet hospital not here.

This is the worst Banfield I’ve ever experienced. Others are wonderful- full of people who love and care for your pet as your own. This one is full of sassy people who hang up the phone on you. My dog has been here 3 times in the past 10 days. I have spent hundreds of dollars and have not ONCE had a doctor call me and tell me what is going on. They didn’t call in my dogs prescription medicine to the pharmacy “because we were on hold for a really long time”. They did not think to call me and tell me that, nor did they try to call the pharmacy back and try again. My dog NEEDS her prescription and these sassy desk girls claim it’s not their job and refuse to help. I’ve been a Banfield customer for all of the 11 years my dog has been alive, and never once had an experience even remotely close to as awful as this. If you care about your pet, don’t bring them here. EDIT: there was ONE very sweet employee (vet tech) who helped me and got me exactly what I needed. Ironically her colleague who said it was “impossible” stood by in silence. Thank you to the sweet girl that helped !

Dr Stacy Wilson, the vet techs, and desk staff are all AMAZING! Very patient, explain everything thoroughly, with the utmost professionalism. The facilities are clean, parking is free and handy. Wished I had been seeing Dr Wilson for so much longer! They do USDA certificates for international travel and explained all steps very helpfully. Highly recommend!
