How to Save on Veterinary Costs at St. Charles Veterinary Clinic

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I wish I could give a higher rating, and I suspect I may be able to in the future, but for now, I'm just not super impressed. Front desk staff needs an attitude adjustment. Maybe working with people just isn't their thing? Prices are very high. That said, I believe the care is good and my pup is well taken care of.

After rescuing my dog 10 years ago, I took her to SCVC. She was a rescue from a kill shelter in Kentucky - getting her fully socialized and normal was a process. I remember my first visit was with a Vet that is no longer there, but he was visually uneasy with my dog (who just barked and coward). I thought that was odd. Years later, she required surgery, and Dr. Miles was amazing. As time went on my dog calmed and was always good at the vet. So I stayed with them for about 6 years. But I finally left because every time I came in, the same women at the front desk acted like it was my first time. There was zero recognition or familiar greeting. Every time I came I saw a new vet. There was zero continuity. It felt impersonal and transactional and I have since found another local vet that is much better with far more personalized, caring service.

This place is completely rude. I'm asking about a life saving drug for my dog and they hang up on me because I push back. When I ask to speak to the practice manager or a vet, the receptionist hung up on me. Don't call them. Don't bring your pet there. They are only about money. Based on the response left what I’m being told is because I didn’t accept their receptionists poor service that makes me belligerent. Because I didn’t just say ok and allow her/him to treat me any way they want to it makes it my fault. Never accepting responsibility for how their employee behaved or spoke to me. A classic profit hunting business. Always blame the customer and never accept responsibility. If you’re goal is to spend money great business. If you’re goal is to save your pet and not just take however they treat you. Move along. All they want is your money.

We have been bringing our little Pomeranian here for her entire 10 years of life and find all of the vets to be very friendly, personable, and helpful. The emergency vet attached is also comforting to know that if we have a problem after hours we can always go there to get help.
