How to Save Money at Woodland Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I LOVE Woodland Animal Hospital! It is a 24-hour vet, so they are open no matter what time an issue with a pet occurs or even due to life/work schedule. There will be a wait when there is no appointment - IF it is not an emergency. Which is understandable since pets are prioritized based on severity or emergency. The staff always goes above and beyond to inform you. Also, they make your pet at ease with all the things pets usually dislike! I know Roxy loves Woodland & this is her favorite vet. This is my favorite vet, also.

My two year old Bengal cat, Jet, was treated at Woodland by Dr. Davis and her techs after he consumed what we now believe was toxic flowers. I woke up to our baby seizing, and rushed him into the hospital as quickly as possible. However, it was a 38 minute drive and Jet seized for the entire ride. I was obviously distraught and called ahead to let them know we were coming and also to see what I could do in the interim to help him, if possible. The staff were so calming and reassured me to remain calm to keep him from being more scared than he already was. When I arrived, two techs rushed to our car to take my poor baby for treatment, and promptly got him into the clinic to get treatment started. At the time, I was hysterical, and had no idea what had caused this. Dr. Davis met with me shortly after starting Jet’s treatment and told me she was confident it was a pyrethrin poisoning from an unknown source. She was absolutely spot on, and her prompt and capable response saved Jet’s life. I truly did not believe my sweet baby would pull through, as his symptoms were very severe and medications needed to be administered at greater than normal limits to stabilize him. Dr. Davis kept me updated every few hours on Jet’s status, and took valuable time to explain, discuss, and educate me on Jet’s condition. I felt full and total confidence leaving Jet in her care. Dr. Davis and the staff saved Jet’s life and I could never repay them for allowing us to bring our baby back home. We got Jet specifically for my daughter, who lost her father very young and struggles with anxiety. Jet was a miracle for her and he brings her so much happiness. I couldn’t imagine not having our Jet, and my daughter and I are truly grateful to all who helped heal and give love to our baby. Jet made a full recovery and it appears he has no lasting issues; which is an absolute MIRACLE based on how critical he was on arrival. Again, we cannot thank you enough for your care and compassion. (Also, the front desk staff made sure to bring me tissues and water after I handed over Jet - which truly made me feel like they understood that pets are more than just animals - but family). Thank you to all, and I hope to soon send pictures of Jet now that he’s recovered and well. His spunky, feisty, and snuggly personality are so needed in our home.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a more caring and compassionate animal hospital in 40 years of being a dog owner! Unfortunately our 9 year old fell very ill and on a Saturday we didn’t know where to go. We found Woodland on Google and rushed him there. From the moment we arrived the front desk receptionist jumped into action getting the triage team out to the car to bring him back to the hospital room. Ultimately it was determined to be his kidneys and we had to make the decision to put him to rest so that he would not suffer. Our nurse Heather was so very polite, helpful and patient with us. Dr. Mathre was AMAZING! Her “bedside” Manner is impeccable and she truly cares for her patients. She took all the time we needed to answer our questions and inform us of the process and what to expect as we wanted to be with him when he went in his forever sleep. During the procedure she sat with us on the floor and did not rush us and stayed with us after to talk us through it. She even walked us out. I highly recommend Woodland Animal Hospital and we will be forever grateful for how amazing the entire team was during a very difficult day.

We had to take our dog here for an emergency visit around 3am. Staff was polite and showed genuine concern. We were there for a total of around 3 hours, and while more than our normal Vet, the total cost was reasonable for an emergency visit. I was given estimated costs throughout our visit and nothing was done until I approved it. I was thankful for this as while I would do anything possible for it not to be, there is a point where costs become a huge factor in what treatment I could approve. I left satisfied with our visit and while I hope we don’t need to come back, I would if it was needed and would recommend them for emergency situations.

Everything was clean and nice, the staff was also nice but I took my parakeet who was in really bad shape and they didn't get to her in time. A dog with some issues with his bladder, but I don't know exactly how bad he was but he didn't look like he was dying got in before me. My parakeet robin died right as they came out to see her, I don't blame this place but I wish they had come out sooner and possibly saved her.
