How to Save Money at Sweetwater Creek Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I absolutely love this place!!! The staff here are amazing!!! Everyone is very helpful and willing to answer any questions that I have. The Vet is no different, you can tell that he actually cares about the animals. Normally I would take off a star because they are difficult to get ahold of. Try emil or there app if you can before you call because their phones are always ringing. The reason I gave 5 stars anyway is because they do go above and beyond in every other way and I wouldn't consider taking my dog anywhere else unless I absolutely have to.

Love love love!!! I have found my new vet for my babies! Took my 15 year old cat in since she wasn't eating and the vet and staff were so helpful, informative and caring. It's refreshing to talk to other people who love cats and didn't make me feel like an outsider. They treated my cat with respect and care. My pet is feeling better and I will always go to this vet from now on. I've already recommended it for all my friends. Prices were reasonable for the exam and test they ran. I got results the next day and they were able to squeeze me in for an appointment quickly.

Dr. Justin Verner and his Staff were welcoming, friendly, and very comforting to my husband and I when we came in as an emergency for our pet Rat Mochi. We found him that afternoon with a huge gash on his left side so we rushed right over. They took him in right away as I was in the brink of tears worried for my brave little friend. We didn’t have to wait long for them to bring him back to us and explain how to care for him within the next few weeks. Both the visit and antibiotics were fairly affordable too. Now a month later Mochi is completely healed up and he is himself again. Thank you Dr. Verner and your amazing Staff for being so compassionate with us and our Mochi. We will definitely recommend and continue to visit for anything our Rattie babies might need.

This vet turned away a stray kitten that had been found in the road, it was breathing but it was in definite need of help. they told us we would be responsible for its medical bills when we literally just found it in the road. they refused to help, the staff could careless, the Dr didn’t care either. They just wanted money. Kay Animal Hospital took the kitten with no hesitation and we didn’t pay one single bill, crazy how that works. I guess just depends on if the Vet has a heart and actually is in the Vet business to help animals vs the ones here only to make money. I’ll just say this, there’s 2 types of people in the vet world.. Kay Animal Hospital and Sweetwater Creek Animal Hospital. Compassion and Empathy vs Greed. Glad I recorded all our interactions, I will definitely make people aware of what it was like dealing with you, they won’t just hear me tell them, they can watch for themselves. Have a good one buddies!

I received a call canceling the appointment for my 3 dogs 10 minutes before the appointment - despite the fact I made it the week before and they had approved it. They stated it was because they hadn’t had their rabies shot booster yet (though they were within safety guidelines and had had it done previously there). I called yesterday after going through their app last week and requesting nail appointments for the dogs again (now that we spent a ridiculous amount of money there for shots) and never hearing back from them. I was told that the price was going up to $25 per dog for a nail trim from $18 because a “vet tech” was doing it. I asked who did the nail trim previously and she said it was a vet tech. She couldn’t give me a reason for the increase. Keep in mind Pet Smart charges $12.95 for walk in nail trims. We reached out to our groomer who said she wouldn’t charge us anything for the trim and to come by. I did tell the receptionist to inform management (again) of my displeasure over the customer service and the fact that the nail trim price was ridiculous. I got no call back yesterday or today or when my appointment had been canceled 10 minutes before it was scheduled. Clearly, they don’t care about how they treat their clients or how much they charge you, or overcharge you. I no longer recommend them.
