How to Save Money at The Pet Lodge

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We did a tour through this place expecting a dog boarding area as nice as we've used in the past. When we left, I started to cry. How could anyone leave their dogs in a cage in a building on cement for 24 hours at a time? Their "dog run" for dogs to stretch their legs (15 min 2x a day) was hot sand and rocks about 20x15. Not for my babies. They get two stars for the wonderful lady who gave us a tour.

The girl at the desk was so kind but I will not take my dogs back here again. They smelled like they had been sitting in their urine all week, the floor was wet and they seemed so anxious when I picked them up. I felt terrible that they were here for a week under those conditions. It was $600 for the week.

They were wonderful. We were able to get them vaccinated and groomed during their stay for a week. Thank you for your great service! God bless!

I'm very particular when it comes to my dogs and my experience at the Pet Lodge was excellent. I was between a rock and a hard place, I had less than 3 weeks to find a place for them to stay over the Thanksgiving holiday. When I called they encouraged me to come visit the facilities before putting down my deposit, (deposits are required for holidays). I stopped by the following weekend, didn't make an appointment or call ahead because, again, I'm particular and incredibly protective when it comes to my pups. I was given a full tour and shown the differences between the different types of kennels available. I went with the Garden Room because it was in the main office and quieter than the more traditional kennels they had. My tour brought my anxiety level down from a 12 to about a 4. The woman that answers the phone was incredibly helpful with helping me get my vet records. I was having trouble getting them from my vet due to my work schedule so she called and got them for me. When I dropped the dogs off, they were incredibly patient and thorough with documenting items I brought with them, their feeding schedule and meds. The reviews I read for grooming weren't the greatest, but I was feeling really positive about the Pet Lodge so I went ahead and booked a grooming for my Maltese-Pug mix, Gator. When I picked them up I was very pleased. Gator looked great. This is probably his best cut since we moved to GA. Neither of my dogs seemed stressed, and it doesn't take much to stress them out. My Kelpie mix, Hobo, has severe separation anxiety so he is my litmus test on how they were treated. The other way I could tell they were cared for was that the bedding I dropped off didn't have a drop of pee on it, so I know they were taken out regularly. I am so grateful that I found the Pet Lodge because I can go out of town and worry less about my dogs.

I have used their puppy day care and boarding. Prices are extremely reasonable, staff is beyond amazing. Daisy begs to go and she gets so happy when we pull in to see some of her favorite humans. She is always happy to go. Thank you for being so amazing and welcoming!!
