How to Save Money at Blairsville Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We brought our new puppy Nola Belle for her puppy shots. Front office did a super job fitting her in. Dr. Jarrett and staff are so supportive and wonderful! We also have a 2 year old lab who loves Blairsville Animal Hospital. We highly recommend them!

I Love every thing about this practice except the way they fill and afford you the ability to chose where to fill (or don’t ) prescriptions. I have 8 cats, 5 dogs and lots of parrots. I spend so much time ordering and filling the medications that a couple of my pets need that I am hesitant to take the rest of my pets there because getting medications takes so much time and is most unpleasant. I respect so much about the way they don’t over book and so create a much less stressful experience for all including and especially the Vets who are amazing and so under appreciated in general and financially I feel. I understand that if not done correctly Vets could end up expending much of their precious and expertise time ~ simply fulfilling medication requests. I get it. However I feel there may be a more Win win potential option as I feel my time is also valuable and I am willing and do pay a fair price for care and tests as needed. I would like an option where my time and effort is also considered in the Medication fulfillment procedure. I have had 100’s of Beloved pets in my 63 years and this is my first experience with such. I’m sure there could be a better way.

This was BY FAR the best vet visit I've had (and that is after 25 years or so of dog ownership)!! Both Jessika and Dr. Morgan were awesome with Sam - my new rescue puppy. He was a little shy - but rather than rushing the visit - they took the time to let him relax - and the visit ended up being fun instead of stressful. AND - all my questions were answered thoroughly (it has been quite some time since I've had a puppy) - it was amazing.

I brought my two dogs in to Blairsville Animal Hospital, and I was very satisfied with my visit. The staff was attentive and very knowledgeable. They listened to my questions and answered everything thoroughly. They administered the needed shots quickly and treated my dogs like angels. we will continue to be a customer here.

My first visit was for an orthopedic issue. I was very satisfied with the service, love the Dr. Colbert. Later that day, my dog became very sick, I called and they let me come right back in and fit us into their schedule! I was amazed at the responsiveness of the staff and thorough work during both visits. I never expected to be "fit in" the schedule as a new patient day 1. Veterinary care here can be difficult to find, too many people and too few services but I have now found a great facility and doctor. I almost don't want to put this review out because more people will start booking. But this facility deserves a great rating.
