How to Save Money at Singleton Avenue Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Sproc and his staff are the best! I have been bringing my pets to him for many years now (decades plus). They have always treated me and my fur babies with care and compassion, from their first visits, emergency situations, and on to their journey across the Rainbow Bridge.

You absolutely need this Veterinary clinic if you have pets!! My dog had an ear infection and I decided to try this vet to see how long it would be before I was able to get an appointment. They got in her the very next day where as other places were going to make us wait at least a week before getting her in. The staff were all wonderful, friendly, kind and professional!! The Doctor was very attentive and really did care about my dog and her well being. He too was kind and professional. The prices were beyond reasonable even with us being new. No outlandish new patient fees etc. I will never go to a different clinic again. This place is a must for your beloved fur babies!! 20/10 recommend!!!

We have been going to Dr. Sproc for years. The last year he has been treating my two (2) aging pugs. My foster pugger Perry (black pug) was diagnosed with diabetes months ago, and Dr. Sproc and his clinic have been amazing and supportive through this tough journey to get Perry's diabetes under control along with all the health issues that have come with this terrible disease. I would highly recommend Singleton Avenue Hospital!!

My small 11 pound dog was overly vaccinated here She. had just been very recently vaccinated for 3 years by previous vet for rabies and DHPP. This very older gentleman shuffled in to wisk her away with zero input from the staff whose only freaking job was to read files to determine if she'd already received her 3 year vacs. No, they doubly immunized her away behind closed doors. One problem is that, though my long-term previous vet kept only electronic files, this vet only took them via fax only. Who does that now? This made them book-like, unwieldly and very difficult to review, let alone keep in order; and they were short staffed. Sent massive files in advance. Though they'd had my dog's extensive files there for a while, no-one reviewed them and files were were hurriedly given me to determine what vaccines she'd had and what exactly she needed in one minute. This was not my job. And then I was rushed back before I could review the files. My dog was then rushed out of the room so I couldn't see what she had been given. Ends up, she was given a Da2PPL and another Rabies 3 year shot. She'd already had and both immunizations at another vet recently for 3 years. And there are known issues with much of the this vaccine (Da2PPL) . As a result, my small dog had bloody diarrhea once, in my house and also thrown up her food, a few times, also in my house, with her throat and eye swollen when that has never happened previously. And her bowels and appetite had been way off. She has always had just the DHPP which, for some reason, this vet was out of years without a problem and long-term vet always allowed me in the room for immunizations that were appropriate, via electronic files. Lesson leaned. Always review all your own pet files, make copious notes and make sure you are in the room where shots are given, if not leave. This elderly vet is extremely dangerous. Please review files before seeing our fur babies. This very senior vet needs to step aside and make room for younger vets. Never go here unless you don't care for your fur baby at all. Scary!
