How to Save Money at Affordable Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I see several recent reviews as poor, but I have to say, my last few visits after being referred to Dr. Morris from an emergency care vet were wonderful ... even through a tough situation! I came in with a sudden sickly rescue pup, and after several visits and multiple tests, Dr. Morris and her incredible staff were determined to get Smudge feeling better. Dr. Morris took on the case with compassion and so much care. After each visit, she called me herself when test results came back and discussed action plans to get this pup to feel better and always had a plan b just in case. She was thorough, gave me time to ask questions, and made me feel just as important as my dog. Dr. Morris even went above and beyond and discussed my pups case with a colleague who specialized in gastro just to ensure treatment plans aligned with his case. I am so glad to have found you all and feel better knowing Smudge will be given the best care there to get healthy and live a God willing, long life. Thank you all.

First of all, all the staff are moody. I brought our healthy cat for a pre examination to get her spayed. The doctor brought up bunch of unnecessary operations to be performed to get her spayed which would cost around $200. I asked if they could get her spayed without these operations and she said no. We had our other cat got neutered at another clinic and they did not ask for any of these unnecessary operations. I checked online and none of the operations that the doctor mentioned are actually necessary. So called affordable pet hospital is actually a ripoff money hospital. Btw they charge $49.95 upfront for the appointment no matter what.

I never left reviews usually. All I have to say this place is not affordable and ridiculous health plan. Be careful before you sign anything here!My puppy was only 3 weeks and broke her leg in February. I brought her to here and they did the bandage and X ray cost $640, this is after their health plan. They said I can save the money to pay monthly plan and never tell me I have to pay the whole year. Also they told me we have to get the surgery cost more than $3000, if not my puppy will lose the leg. I move to another city later and we would like to cancel that plan they keep trying to charge me. And said if I am not pay they will send to collection. If we use that really saved money we’d love to pay. But it is not, we went to another place after moving they said this 3 week puppy no need to get surgery, keep bandage 4 weeks then should be fine. X ray each time only more than $100 and bandage only around $50, which is much much cheaper than affordable hospital. After 4 weeks my puppy was cured, the bone grows good. Now she is 7 months old. She runs faster than my other 2 dogs. And I still received their email to let me pay the balance of the health plan which is so ridiculous.
