How to Save Money at Bradford Pet Care Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat, Edwin, had a large abscess on his cheek that was infected and just... really bad. No where had openings and I was desperate to have him seen! So, we tried Bradford Pet Care Hospital. Omg, never going back to our old vet. They took him back to surgery and didn't play around treating him! It's now the day after and beside the wound healing on his face...my cat is normal again!! He's purring, happy, snuggling, and even trying to play (but we're taking it easy lol). They even called this morning to make sure he was doing well. Customer service is 10/10! Absolutely unmatched by any other vet I've seen! Update** Also brought my snake here and it was SO affordable and awesome. Definitely bringing all our animals here.

Poke Go

I've recently shared my experiences in animal groups and veterinary groups online, and I've been urged my SO many to share my story and warn others. I went here twice and each time the experience was the same. I took my dog for a checkup and shots to Bradford Pet Care Hospital. The receptionist is super sweet and helpful, but that's where the kindness of this facility ends. Upon walking in, the vet tec immediately tries to put a choking-type collar/lead on my dog. The first time this happened, I let him. He then proceeded to drag my 70 lb dog across the floor while she coughs over and over and freezes in fear. I told him to take it off her and I'd lead her with my own leash and halter. He begrudgingly let me do it. It was obvious he was annoyed. (she coughed for two days after this. Her throat was clearly hurt from it). When we get to the room, my dog is shaking in fear. I ask the vet if he would examine her on the ground, for her comfort. He refused, and he and the vet tec quite literally manhandled my large dog up onto a high table. The vet tec put her in a choke hold with his arms (literally just that) while she wheezed and gasped, all her muscles pulled taut. She was terrified. They trimmed her nails, cutting one and causing it to bleed quite a lot. The vet examined her very quickly and they put her back down. She then peed on the floor. All that could have been done so much easier if they'd listened to me and let her sit on the ground. Both times I went to the vet, this same thing happened. Tec puts her in a choke hold and she is VERY roughly handled, forced onto her side on a table, and roughly held in place so they can look at her belly. A vet practice should cater to their patients (the animals) and I can tell you from our experiences, this one absolutely does not. We will never go back, and I will warn everyone I can to stay away.

After calling NINE vet clinics, nobody had an available appointment or were taking walk-ins or just didn’t answer. I found BUT BRANFORD PET CARE HOSPITAL which was an hour away and they didn’t turn me or my sick pup away! Although they had full availability, the polite and overall wonderful receptionist squeezed me in. Wait time was little to none and they took me right back to figure out what was wrong with my dachshund. Pricing was also reasonable! They called the next morning to check up on her and as of now, she’s doing great. :) Thank you to the Dr, Nurse and receptionist for saving my baby.
