How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Always love bringing my boy here for all his needs. We pay for the plan for him and it is worth every penny! Each visit wr get a break down of everything and we always save so much. Not only is it easy on the bank but the staff is so wonderful with my rowdy Cloud! They are always very attentive and explain everything in detail to help me be sure to give my boy the best care!

I cannot recommend Dr. Odom enough. We had to make the difficult decision of putting our beloved 15 year old Lucy down. He did a very thorough exam and presented some options and helped us come to the decision. He explained the process of euthanasia and what to expect and gave me as long as I needed with her. Him and the vet tech Briona were so compassionate and kind and made the process so smooth and peaceful. I couldn’t have asked for better help. Thank you so much to the Banfield Seminole team.

I took my pittie here because she had a strange cough that I was concerned about, terrified that it could be from heart worm & also to get her up to date on her shots. I scheduled her visit in the morning online for the afternoon & they called to say there was a scheduling conflict, but we figured it out and took care of the preliminary info over the phone to save time. Everyone I spoke with was extremely nice, and when we arrived, we got in right away without any wait, which was great. The vet tech was really nice, a little overboard on the upselling but not too bad, and was helpful in strategizing how I wanted to go about what was going to take place at the visit regarding what testing I wanted to move forward on, and provided the pricing for everything in advance so I knew exactly what to expect. We determined what I felt was the best starting point, and from there, she took Lola back to see the vet and we were told to come back in a half hour. This was different than with my previous vet where you stayed in the office the whole time, but I think it was actually much better because Lola had been whining and running around like a maniac at that point due to the unfamiliar environment and presence of other dogs, which she isn’t used to…but apparently as soon as I wasn’t around she was really good, lol. They even gave her a complimentary nail trim. The vet called after her visit was done and updated me on everything and fortunately she was negative for heart worm and she said she didn’t find anything outwardly wrong, and said she could do blood work but offered to give her a shot of some sort that would work for about 36 hours and some cough medicine and see how that went first …which ended up working out wonderfully. Her cough was basically gone after her visit and we got her up to date on shots. The prices were surprisingly reasonable, and there’s a coupon online for a free office visit for new customers which saves you around $50. In total, her visit, the flea/tick/heart worm meds we got, her rabies vac, shot for her cough and cough meds totaled a little over $200…I expected to spend double that. I highly recommend this vets office for efficient, reasonably priced vet care & extremely nice staff!

We were treated with warmth and understanding. Although they were about to close and had a life saving emergency and couldn't provide care to my dog, I feel confident that the staff cares about their K9 patients and is willing to go the extra mile
